Civ V by far the worst game in the series?

It's fine that you think it's the best. That say's alot about your prefered playstyle and little about the quality of the product.

And the qualilty is THE WORST compared to the older CIV's. I should now, spended thousand and thousand hours playing 1,II,III and IV.

In the last week i encountered some many balancing issues, so many unlogical game mechanics that a truly can say; this is the worst of ALL Civ's.

Despite it's good hextile system, despite the pretty oke graphics, despite the idea of policies.
Alot of things are worked out so badly, it all isn't enough for me to say; this is good. It ain't.

So, happy gaming with your "broken" product....

I agree.

Dos -> Later Dos versions
Windows 3.0 --> Windows 3.1
Windows 95 (4.0) --> Windows 98 (4.1)
Windows 2000 (5.0) --> Windows XP (5.1)
Windows Vista (6.0) --> Windows 7 (6.1)

Now given that there were almost 3 years between each major update ... you can then compare; ...

Civ 1 to Dos
Civ 2 to Windows 3.0
Civ 3 to Windows 95
Civ 4 to Windows 2000
Civ 5 to Windows Vista

Each major generation had issues to begin with, but the generation did not come into it's own until it was updated significantly as described above. So for us in Civ, that means expansion packs. i.e. Civ 4 + Warlords/BTS is like Windows XP SP3. So we need to see Civ 5 like Vista which was not well liked initially (although I found it OK), but when it was essentially updated to Windows 7 (which was built on the Vista foundation), it became a popular creation.

So essentially we are comparing Windows Vista (Civ 5) to Windows XP SP3 (Civ 4+Warlords+BTS). Give it time and it will become great.

Btw: I am still playing Civ 4, but will move to Civ 5 when it is updated signficantly.

I think I add this to my thesis :D

Playing direct X 9 version avoid crashes.
Direct x 10-11 is buggy as hell

Really?
I have well over 120 hours of playtime on DX 10/11 and only crashed once, and that was cause i went to a huge pangea map :)
Rightnow im playing a Huge Small Continents map, and it's working fine

Maybe a stupid question, but what excactly is it that require that much systempower in Civ5?
I have 2 computers and only 1 of them can install it, and that one is running it REALLY REALLY slow.
I'm not talking about wait between turns, but the use of the user interface and moving units. But hey! Its a turn based strategy game...... Turn based..... So its not supposed to use it on AI calculations. The graphics looks a LOT worse than civ4 with everything at min. setting, so its not because of that either. Is it because its Hexagons instead of Squares??? Is it because the userinterface uses a lot of Circles instead of.... Squares??? My computer is already 2 and a half years, so I guess thats way to old for a game that practically doesnt have an AI, have horsehockey looking graphics, an extreme slow responding userinterface and has had surgery where they removed the heart and other vital organs.

No really, please if you know why its running so slow please let me know. You can just state the facts without ranting like I did. I'm just a fanboy who lost his precious...

It's slow because 1 unit per tile is a flawed system and it takes forever for the computer to figure out how to move around its units (pointless gridlock). Apparently the vast majority of the time is spent on workers even when they aren't doing anything (it has to check every tile in sight to see if the workers should mess with it). That is according to threads on the 2K site.

By far the worst game in the series.

Not because of technical issues (runs pretty well on my rig), but because of being unpolished, misbalanced and incompetently designed.

Actually, at the moment I wouldn't be able to name just one game element which I think is balanced properly (for immortal, huge maps, continents, raging barbs, that is).

Its becomming laughable now that ppl are saying there is not enough stuff in civ 5 with compare to the other civs.

Here is a rundown of your issues.

Vanilla Civ IV

Civilization IV comes to life - Beautiful 3D world with dozens of fully animated units (including culturally unique units), and totally customisable armies. Cities and wonders will appear on the map. Wonder movies are back!
Faster-paced fun - Gameplay has been streamlined for a tighter, faster and more compelling experience with an easier to use real-time strategy style interface.
Multiplayer - LAN, Internet, PBEM and Persistent Turn-Based Server (PTBS) offer players all-new strategies and ways to play when competing or cooperating with live opponents.
Team Play - Whether playing multiplayer or single player, team play offers a new way of setting locked alliances that result in shared wonder effects, visibility, unit trading and shared territory that delivers a plethora of new strategic and tactical options.
Mods and Community Tools - Designed from the ground up for modability, the game contains a powerful map editor with XML and Python support.
In-Game Movies - Civilization IV will have over 70 in-game movies.

Warlords

Warlords: A new great person type called the Warlord.
Vassal States: Conquer an enemy and subjugate them to your rule.
Game Scenarios: The expansion will deliver six scenarios.
New Civilisations: The pack will provide 6 new civilisations and associated unique units.
Civilisation Leaders: Ten new leaders will be provided - the list will include leaders for the new civilisations as well as additional leaders for existing civilisations.
Leader Traits: Two new leader traits.
New Wonders: There will be three new wonders.
Unique Buildings: Each civilisation will have a new unique building as well as their unique unit.
New Units, Resources, and Improvements: Many new items will be presented throughout the scenarios.
Core Game Tweaks and Additions: Expanded features and gameplay tweaks will be made to the core game.
Post-Release Patches and Game Upgrades: The pack will contain all of the patches and game additions (pit boss, etc.) yet released for Sid Meier's Civilization IV.

BTS

More Civilization Than Ever: Some call Civilization the deepest computer game of all time. With a massive increase of 10 civilisations, 64 buildings, 12 scenarios, 5 wonders, 6 technologies, corporations, brand new espionage system and expanded trade routes, Civilization is beyond deep. It is beyond anything you've ever seen.
Focus on the "Late-Game": With Firaxis focused on delivering many new units, buildings and technologies in the modern time period, you will be able to launch guided missiles and suitcase nukes and build armies of mech assault soldiers, Cyborgs and Navy Seals - among many other choices.
Scenarios - Expect The Unexpected: Beyond The Sword will deliver 12 new scenarios, many containing themes never seen in Civilization, custom designed by the team at Firaxis and some members of the Civilization fan community.
Advanced Starts: For the first time ever, launch a game by purchasing units, cities, improvements, and technologies that allow you to get into later era games more quickly.
Unstoppable Corporations: If you didn't feel like behemoth corporations were taking over the world, you will now. Found your own corporation and spread its influence as another tool to gain control over the world.

BTW this is fact. Alot of the CIVS/Building/Resources/Espionage/Corporations were added with the expansions. All I can say is, if you are not happy with the vanilla CIV V. DO NOT play it. Stop moaning and move on to another game.

:goodjob:
Finally more people are seeying what me and a few others have been saying from the begin of the whine-fest 2010.
CiV is equal if not better then vanilla Civ IV.

Thank you for posting that complete run down of things added in Civ 4, makes it maybe more clear for those who are missing the bigger picture. :)

Moderator Action: Thread closed. NobleJms, there is no need to start two very similar threads, you could have added your opinions again in this thread that you started. Thanks. :)
