 Well i am dissappointed...so to make this easier lets talk about the good points.
Good Points
1). Graphics are very good, and i love the detail of the units, and the map looks fine, and the leader heads are pretty awesome.
2). The hexegonal map is great, should have been implemented in all the previous games, especially starting with Civ 3, just seems right to me.
3). Combat system is exceptable, single units, no stacking, but not prefered.

Bad points

Honestly i feel there are just too many to talk about them all, and the game just isn't good enough to. But there are a couple things that i feel really ruin the game and the serries if this type of gaming is what we have to look forward to in the future.

1). The Political system is horrible, i mean horrible, it took less then 6 turns of meeting a new nation to be disliked, and for no reason, at all, lol, which makes it hard to make money thru resource trades etc., if your nation is depending on making cash. And it doesn't take long for the rest of the nations in the game to follow suit. And once they've made that choice there is no way back to good relations if u had them to begin with.
2). Each turn is a year? approx? Aircraft have a limited range to base transfers of 8, 10 etc? for a whole year? R u kidding me?...lol. What, rail is better and faster than air travel, oh come on...lol...really lousey move.
3). Steam, no spain unless i buy them seperate, lol, a nation always included in previous CIV's, well i understand why u chose Steam, get that mula, get it all, gimmie gimme gimme, lol, just pitiful. Not from this game player, keep Spain, lol. I'm sure u will find a why to bleed the players dry some how.
4). Reviews on the game were honestly misleading, so much for unbiased opinions, now everyone gets a piece of the pie, well except the players who pay for it.

The best thing about CIV 5 is..it made me want to play civ 3&4 again, and made me more grateful to play them.
The worst thing about CIV 5 is...saying goodbye to a beloved serries, a game about playing, not pretty pictures and extra costs. True gamers who love their games, will always take gameplay over graphics anyday, and game replay value, over repay value.

Just my honest opinion, have been playing games for many many years, and this game is major fail, and has lowered its standards from previous versions. Ofcourse there will always be those who r willing to pay more money for more pretty things, graphics over game play, and who will fill the coffers of those who dont deserve it...to u guys i say....hey look...shiney...pretty...eewww, lol.

dead on civ 5 is crap.

Yea, I was a bit of disappointed after a few games. The whole pay for extra civs is thier choice and I will not be supporting it. For now I am playing Distant Worlds and Heroes III (got this from GoG for 10 bux!). I could literally NOT stop the next turn syndrom..LOL.

I get to a point with so many units in Civ 5 that I have to just save the game and walk away.

Sad really..

They've changed the dynamics, now most of the money is made through trade between your cities. But yes, diplomacy has been a major gripe for everyone. The diplomacy screen is better than in any other Civ, yet the AI is just crazy.

This has been in every Civ game, that I know of.

Did you just broke up with Civ or something?, but yes, they've decided to implement a DLC system (not in the best of ways, granted). But I hardly think that "no spain" is a cause for a game to be bad, I mean every Civ game has the same damn Civs, I actually greet every time they place a new Civilization or a new leader to any of the old Civs, I mean Civilization is not some sort of facist game that has to have the same civs in every game (that would be mighty boring for any designer if they had to do the same thing over and over).

4). Reviews on the game were honestly misleading, so much for unbiased opinions, now everyone gets a piece of the pie, well except the players who pay for it.

Civ 5 was reviewed by reviewers not by essayists, I mean video game reviews, much like movie reviews, are meant to be a fun, light read that usually preaches to the choir. Within the videogame world, since all the profits come from ads, videogame reviewers usually go easy on games by major companies. Unless of course if they are notoriously bad (Civ 5 was alright, it's not the mess made out to be by most rants here).

The best thing about CIV 5 is..it made me want to play civ 3&4 again, and made me more grateful to play them.

Unless you get paid, you really shouldn't call yourself a "true gamer". Consumer perhaps... who knows.

lol.

OrsonM, 1) Yes Dynamics changed, but not for the better. 2) Its about the distance covered in that year period of game play..lol, no the year its self, lol. 3) Its not about Spain.. its about paying xtra cash for any faction, and making more money thru DLC, then they would for a expansion pack. The game cost apprx $50, by using DLC they can get $3, $5, and even $10+ extra for more factions, etc. which could run the cost up $20 easily for a $50 game that sux, they're going for more money for less quality, which shows where their priority is...profit over gameplay, as well as what to expect from them in the future....u wont be getting your money's worth. 4) LOL, your statement here is nothing more than confirmation of my previous statement above..lol. that reviews are biased, misleading, and not actual ligetimate reviews at all, its all for profit, so why read them to begin with, lol. 5) being a gamer imho, is anyone who plays games with atleast 50% of thier free time...being paid is called a professional gamer (doh!!!), which was not my statement, and anyone who buys anything is a consumer, u should of stayed in school, lol.
But i've met the company plants(online peeps paid to defend useless or bad products) in many online sites, they always try to defend or attack anything against thier profit capability's, and your opinion is noted, wether u r or not, does not change the facts, this game is not worth the hype, or the price, and that was the companys choice, when they chose that path. But to insult all the gamers out there in your final statement, was uncalled for, and unnessacary. Well i've made my opinion, and will stand behind it, and will not get into an argument based on an opinion. In my heart, i really wanted this to be a better game than it is, and will spend (waste) no more money on the serries, until the company starts caring more about the product then their wallets, and the people that keep them working. But u may do as u wish, my advice to you is.."ssssshhhhhh, the grown ups r talking" lol.

...no, I'd say grown ups know how to spell correctly.
