Civ-watching pets?

About a dozen people so far. Thanks for asking. :-)

yeah, a dozen pointless individuals....I mean what pets have to do with Civ IV? Forums are sometimes an illustration about human stupidity

I'm sorry to have forced you to read the thread and reply twice, and feel you are due an apology. Chocolate chip cookie?

My cat loves watching C-IV. At the very least, she knows exactly where she'll go to ask food from, and at best she gets to curl up between the monitor and CPU and lazily swat my units (she seems to have a liking for Catapults, especially since the bombard sounds kinda like opening a can of cat food).

my cat ignores the game, he doesnt stoop so low as to hunt animated characters, he hunts live pray. me and my dad for the most part. my mom seems to be above him on the foodchain.
so while i'm playing civ, he will come up either behind me and start watching my hands moving, or he'll get up on the table and stare at my fingers.
after about 3 mins he pounces.
my right hand (the one that uses the mouse) is all scratched up.
i have to remember to get him out of his trance whenever he does this, then he has to start the "concentrating" period all over again.

i guess this is actualy an improvement. since we've moved and the computers are on a different (bigger) table, he can get up on the table while someone is using the computer, so he hunts hands.
before he used to hunt feet. that was horribly distracting when all of a sudden this ball of clawed fur attacks your bare foot while you were happily concentrating on eliminating the chinese.

One of my 2 cats does climb from ground to lap to desk the lays down in front of my monitor while I TRY to play. Of cource my cat is really a miniature mountain lion so I can only see half the screen. So I have the wife call him for dinner or treat or to play laser light or something

Yeah....or human jerkiosity. What do you care what he posts? It's much easier to NOT read a thread than it is to waste time posting about how useless said thread is.

I care about them too - this topic is cute :)

 Ive read some of your other posts... you seem to be a very negative person. :crazyeye:

My kitten likes to sit on my wife's desk between her monitor and keyboard and often attacks the mouse cursor as it moves around the screen. I don't find it as amusing when I'm trying to game so I don't let him do that on my desk.

Intresting thread - nice relief from the constant strife in some others. Although the strife attempted to sneak in, albeit unsuccessfully. ;)

Don't have any pets unfortunately. However my soft toy hippopotamus watches from his shelf. And a small frog sits in front of the monitor and fervently demands that I switch to Guild Wars so that he can see some action. My soft bear doesn't like Civ either, he keeps grumbling about the outrageosly ill-advised decision to leave out honey as a special resource.

My wife (note: not a pet) started by just rolling her eyes and walking off... then she started asking questions, like "How come you have guns and they only have bows and arrows?" or "What's that purple border?"

Now she knows more and says things like, "Your culture almost has him cut off from the rest of island."

I give her another month before she starts playing on her own. ;-)

My cat loves CIV. He climbs up whenever I play, watching intently and interacting whenever possible. Rooting for his favorite charriot, swiping at the infadels.

He's still a novice, though. One time, I got up to refill my coffee and he lept to the keyboard. Before I could get back, he had given Egypt my only source of Marble and seemed quite content.

I agree with Syagrius. How dare you post a topic that has made me chuckle twice, laugh six times, and roll on the floor once. You should be ashamed of yourself. :mischief:

I love the parrot. Although terrifying every time it happens, I would have to laugh when I noticed it was a false alarm.

For those of you with cats who play when you aren't looking, haven't you learned yet that the cat is the owner and you are the pet?

Great topic and as opposed to a lot of threads around here, only one jerk trying to ruin it. Pretty good, I'd say...

To come back to the topic, I have to say that my two cats haven't been paying attention at all. I'm kind of disappointed, actually... We'll have to get them started on Settler level and move forward slowly...

My cat behaves the same way when I play CIV as she does when I do anything else on the computer. She circles my chair, mewing cutely and making eyes at me until I let her jump up in my lap. Then she starts pushing keys on the keyboard with her nose while kneading my knees with her claws. I think the intended message is that I ought to be paying attention to her rather than the computer, as she's obviously the most fascinating thing in the room.

Cat's will do that :) . Besides, you can't be a stereotypical "conquering the world type chap" without having a cat on your lap.

Damn you ALL, you are making me realise how much I miss my own cat (2 years dead) and how badly I want another one .

Seriously though (or, maybe not seriously, depending on how you look at it) I am sooo enjoying reading about how people's pets are responding to the game, and have had to stifle a laugh more than once-especially the parrot imitating the war sound ;). These are the kinds of threads I can actually enjoy reading!

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.
