Hi guys,

I am working on a CIV1 Map Editor. It'll be released in about 2-3 weeks.
It can be used to edit geographics.
Is anyone interested?

There is already a working map editor. The interface was a nightmare, but I got it to work once. I later forgot how I did it and put it away for years. Recently, I was talking over email with some guy who claimed he got it to work, but I was too busy and never reproduced his work and consequently never posted it here. Now, I don't even work here anymore, so don't expect it around. Still, I'd go out and look for it if I were you because it is out there.

Thanks, however my one is already working functionally, so I can edit my maps however it's quite unconvenient.
So I am to improve the UI and make some routines for calculating continents, etc..
At least I can fulfill my long standing dream to play on a single huge landmass map with no seas at all...

WOW!!! It will be really cool to see a WORKING map editor for CIV 1. Good luck!

Only one last push is needed.
Planned release date is Saturday, 30th June.
You will need at least Excel 97 to run it.
Back to you soon.

Will it work on the maps for Civ for Windows? - or did they change the map file format?

Id love a good map editor as I find the continents the game generates to be a bit too stringy for my liking. I usually play on Earth for this reason, but its damn boring knowing where everything is.

well I don't know, cause I don't have Winciv, but the standard CIV1 for PC DOS.
Earlier I read here on the forums that Winciv is based on a totally different concept than CIV1 so the save files are different as well.
If you sent me a sample save file from winciv I could check out if there are differences.
In Civ1 there are two files for each saved game : civilx.sve and civilx.map, where x is between 0 and 9 in the order of appearence on the load saved game list.
If the winciv has these 2 files, send me both and I'll take a look at them.

As promised, here it goes.
You can download the version 1 from: http://www.geocities.com/civcrazy/civedrel1.zip
It is an Excel 2000 file (hopefully works on Excel 97 as well).
Unzip it, click on it, and if you are lucky it kicks off.
It may occur that you receive a message stating that the file contains macros that could contain viruses that are very dangerous. Well, this file doesn't, so ENABLE macros or else you can't use the editor.
Usage:
On sheet "MAP" you have a button (in the top left corner): Open Map. Click on it and enter path of civ files, than choose from the list.
Then you can edit, after you have edited enough press Save Map and it writes back the map into the save files.
The file has five sheets:
-MAP: here you can edit the map in two different views (political and geographical)
-Names: name of players, leaders, money, time, diffculty level
-Science: you can set the civ advances that each civilization has.
-Citynames: Edit citynames except those that are already used. Those can be edited on sheet MAP.
-Units: set unit features. Attack/Move/Defend/Cost and so on.
See further help in the file itself on the bottom of the sheets.
Well, the code is written in Visual Basic for Excel - you can even see and modify it if you want - that language is interpreted ,so unfortunatelly it is VERY slow, please be patient.

I hope you'll enjoy it.

it doesn't work!!!!

after i click "open map", it says "run time error 76: path not found"

WHAT SHOULD I DO??? I was waiting for this editor to come out, and now it doesn't work for me.

I mean download it again, unzip it and start.
There was a bug that I have fixed.
Sorry, this the testing phase, and you are the testers, so some bugs still might turn out.
The name of th fixed file should be : civedrel1a.xls
Good luck,

Gaborka

IT WORKS!!!

YOU ARE THE BEST, MAN! I've been waiting for a long time for an editor like this to come out, and finally, the wait is over. (it works kinda slow, BUT IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!!)

ever seen a veteran battleship on top of a mountain with fortress? now you can!
or a city on ocean which feeds of fish? You can also get a mech. inf. when everyone else didn't even finish building their first militia. this is cool...

How exactly does this work?

I mean how does it edit my files, cos I AM A COMPLETE BEGINNER...

How do I save them and to which directory... I'd be grateful to anyone who responds.

Does it work in that excel-style MS-Works program? In other words, does it work in the
programs of standard Windows ME?
