I now know for sure that it is perfectly possible to make a modpack for civ1. The units' intrinsic abilities could be edited with the saved game editor, all of the civs and their leaders could be renamed, and theoretically the map could be edited. Of course, the amount of work that would go into would mean there would probably only EVER be one such modpack. I'll consider giving it a try after I finish the main content for my section. Would anyone be interested in such a modpack? If so, what should it be about? Seeing as there will probably only ever be one, it should be good. I'd be interested to hear people's feedback.

I have to tell you TTG, I am very impressed. What you're talking about is a lot of work. I am going to say that it should probably be a historical World War Scenario. I would suggest World War 2...since the units are more designed toward that scenario. I would suggest also that you have as many civs going as possible when you save the game and activate the game save editor...that might help give you some room to work with. I am going to continue to contact programmers and see if I can get better tools for Civ I.

Well, good luck. If there is anything I can do to help...just let me know.

I was thinking World War II too...

Although personally, I prefer the ancient units (phalanxes, chariots, etc...)

I think it's just because I get more practice with them (I've usually conquered the world before anyone can discover the modern technologies).

Another option I am considering, therefore, is a "decline of the roman empire" where you would control the romans and all 6 civs would be pitted against you (Germans, chinese, english, babylonians, mongols, egyptians).

I could even control their leaders' characteristics, making them all very aggresive and all have vendettas against the romans.

The Romans thank kwewww very much for your confidence in them.

Actually TTG,

A "Great Invasion" scenario would be an excellent idea. Have you given any consideration as to the difficulty level that you would design it in? I'm not sure how that might affect the playability.

By the way, can you change the name of the Barbarian Leader in that editor from 'Atilla' to something else?

Peace!

I'm not sure. I haven't done *that* much experimenting with most of this stuff. I mainly posted this topic so I could hear ppl's feedback on what the scenario should be, because as I said there will only ever be one.

As for difficulty level, I'm not too sure where I'd set it. I think I'll just make everything at emperor difficulty (because I'll be testing it myself) and then allow people to download versions at the other difficulty levels if they want.

What do you mean by "Great invasion"?

Makes sense TTG; I was wondering what you would do about the levels.
As far as the "Great Invasions" it's just the idea of the Barbarian
invasions and the fall of the Western Roman Empire.

I would break out my CivNet if it would run a Mod that you made for it!

No, such a mod would not work on civnet. Civnet scenarios are actually quite easy to make, but civnet is a totally different game than civ1. It is based on civ for windows, which actually has a lot of fundamental programming difference from civ1 for DOS. If you want civnet scenarios, try apolyton.net

It is pretty late since you wrote on this site, so I guess that you are finished with the modpack or you have dropped the project.
I would like to play that modpack if you've done it.

Luck to it

The project was never started. I have more important things to do. This is just sort of a dream I might do someday.

I always knew I was, uh, special, idiot sometimes. But I never refuse to help. Especially Civers.

All right, thanks. Here you are. You'll notice it's in wav format but I didn't have a MP3 converter yet. Waiting for you to post it...

How about creating the delian league! More information about delian league you can find here

Uh.

The post you are replying to belong to members who are long gone. Five years in fact.

Yes i am aware of the date that this topic created. I didn't know that these members don't post anymore.

Is there anyway to hack civ.exe in order to change the tribes?

Indeed. The way is posted somewhere on the net.. *points in the general direction of everywhere*

I searched the net but... boo hoo hoo... i couldn't find anything. I am sure that there is somewhere. I am saying that because i have found a version of civ dos in russian...

At this stage till i find what i am looking for, how can i modify the save game (names and tribes only) without making a mess? I mean how can i change the tribe romans for something with more characters?
