Civ1 Units for Civ3! Give your game that retro look!!!

hehe, then just get dosbox at http://dosbox.sourceforge.net (dos with soundblaster emulator) and go find your civ1 disk or download it somewhere if you can find it ;) You get more than just the units, you get the cool diplomacy screens with music, the city views with animations and the original intro "movie" ;)

Moderator Action: Don't even *suggest* downloading a Civ game (or any other) on this site. --Padma

I really think that you or the moderator are really getting the wrong idea. This should be thought of as a tribute to the original Civ I. Do you really expect to empress as with that arrogant attitude? This game is over 10 years old!!! There is no commercial value in it. I really think that you are going over the top to protect copyright that technically should not exist. It was a game that worked on a 286 which was about 1983 therefore that computer is as old as me. It is 20years old!! Maybe you could give me old Sid Mesiers web address so I can talk to him about this. See what he reckons. I'm sure he'll be flattered that someone remembers the original after all these years.

Have you ever visited Civ1 forum?
There have been many threads about it.
It's not allowed to download it because Atari has the copyright of it.

Since they're actually still selling the original Civilization, I figure they do recon it has some commerical value in it.

If and when Civilization goes abandonware, I'm sure this is the first place you'll know it. But till that day, pirating it is illegal - if you've got an issue with that, it isn't Padma you should be attacking.

Oh sweet memories.

I remember the days when I first played Civilization from it's 3 floopy disks, imediatly ingrosed in the game with no understanding of how it worked and enjoying every moment of it.

I recall sending 2 armors to conquer a whole city, being supprised I lost.

Settlers mining gems, thinking it earned me money, well heck, I seemed to get more money with each turn, so I thaught it worked.

How about AI fortifying units right outside your city? (In my experiance, Civ3's AI do not build enough forts now, though they LOVE to build radar towers)

Then you learn the AI and all it's imperfections. Attack and declare war on enemies and make peace before the end of your turn, losers. :D

yes when i started Civ'n though it was about around.......whenever the Civ 2 for PSX came out (yeah i know sad) but then i played the original civ, and i loved it.

ahhh......memories:love:

The good old days of Civ1 :)
I borrowed the game from someone in 1998 or 1999 (a bit late!) and played it for over 6 months, and then I bought civ2 ;)
And even though Civ1 was really old when I got it, it was definetely one of the most beautiful and engrossing games I've ever played.

Thank you :)

Does anyone have screenshots of all of the units from Civ1, since I only did the ones that are available for avatars on the forums?

I just installed civ1 the other day and played it using a dos emulator called dosbox. Man, civ1 rocks! But there are a few things than are really annoying:

- Unability to change civ colors so you have a choice to play a game with modern civs only or ancient;
- Badly balanced governments;
- Loose one unit = loose the whole stack;
And a few other ones

I remember those days!! Took me a while to get used to the fact that I could safely stack my units. You learned quickly in Civ1 not to make that mistake!! Those units really bring back memories.
