I need help. since my computer is connected to a server, I can´t play civ2 anymore. each time I try to connect to the host, I get an immediate error message. civ2 isn´t able to send even a ping to the inet through the proxy server.
how can I fix this? when I want to connect to the host I have to enter his ip. but there is no proxy-settings menu. so how can I explain the civ2 program, that I want a connection to the host through the proxy server?

those, who understand what I want to know ;): any ideas?

Well,we're not getting ya much help here.I'll send it over to tech support. The techies may know :)

Are you hooked to the I-Net through the LAN or dialup??

I'm on a network but I connect through my modem. Civ 2 won't work until I manually set the IP address to the PPP connection. (It defaults to the network card) What you want to do is run winipcfg (Win95/98/ME) or ipconfig (WinNT4/2000/XP) and see the IP address for the PPP connection (Dial-up) or if you connect through the LAN you want to give Civ 2 the IP address of your NIC card (The one that is connecting to the internet.)

Then that should work. If not.....I have no idea.

Also, if there is a way to set the proxy server up to forward certain ports to your computer you will be able to host games. I posted earlier about what ports those are, let me try to dredge it up again.

thanks for your help. I changed my TCP-settings and now it works!
I entered the internal server IP into the gateway folder.
thanks again, you just saved my life :)

btw, I´ve read somewhere the port you´re looking for is 4993

Glad you found it, I couldn't! I suck at using the search feature on this site.
