Several years ago my wife and I played CIV2 mpge using a couple of ethernet cables and a hub in between and windows 98 machines on either end.
I've just recently tried to get mpge working on XP but am currently unable to get the multiplayer portion of it working. I receive this error dialog
--
Local Area Network (TCP/IP)
The connection has failed.
Please check the log for more information.

The following error messages appear in the smeds.log

( 1) 5.4.0f Multiplayer 26-March-99
( 1) Patch 3
( 1) Disconnecting from network:
( 1) XD_ResetLibrary();
( 1) Bottom-up orientation recommended.
( 9) Not an IGZ Game!! event = -3
( 11) Disconnecting from network:
( 11) XD_ResetLibrary();
( 25) Disconnecting from network:
( 25) XD_ResetLibrary();
( 26) ConnectToNet: XD_Initialize???? FAILED! Return val: -5
( 26) Startup LAN: Failure of ConnectToNet as server.
--
My network setup is this:
two xp pro boxes
1 wired connection
1 wireless connection
1 router in between
We're only trying to game across our lan in the house. Nothing over the internet.
I also have turned off the xp firewall and do not have any other firewalls running.
Both machines receive the same error.
I've attempted to open 4993 & 4994 but to no avail. I'm in over my head on this one.
Any ideas?
I greatly appreciate any ideas you have.
Thank you!
Chris
