CIV3 Cheats?

I was wondering if there were any operational cheats for Civilization 3 out there.

I've heard of putting multi in the save name or Leemur as a leader name, but was wondering if they actually worked and what they did?

Or, if there is any way of editing save files or a trainer type thing for mac?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Hello. welcome to MacCivFanatics :wavey:

I've no experience or information on cheats. However, I think the game software is ported with minimal changes from Windows to Mac OS, so I would guess that any trick that works in the Windows version 1.29f will also work in Mac version 1.29b2.

I know of no save file editor or 'trainer' for the Mac other than hex editors like HexEdit. The best Civ3 training I know of is available in the SG, GOTM and Strategy Articles forums.

FYI If you do want to hex edit a compressed manual save you can expand it by opening it in JMapStat (see my signature for a link). While it's open there's a file called mapstat.tmp created in the JMapStat folder. Copy that and rename it with a .SAV extension and you have an expanded save file.

If I remember correctly, the 'multi'-cheat made it possible for you to see the entire world map from the beginning. It's possible that it also allowed the player to take a look at the AI's city screens, but I can't remember if I just read that or actually verified it. Either way I'm pretty sure that at least this cheat stopped working somewhere along the update path. (1.21f)
