I've once again tried to reinstall Civilization III Complete using Steam... however, it seems that the numbskulls that added it there neglected to add any .exe files for vanilla Civ3 and PTW, and it's impossible to mod or play as a result. Is there any way to get this to actually play?
Farsight, I had the same problem. I'm going to save you hours of time in searching the net and tell you to just go buy PTW.
Amazon has exe files for vanilla and has more content than Steam. However, they also don't have the PTW version with their download. You can still play vanilla and Conquests and PTW scenarios, but if you try to play the PTW GOTM you can't do it because it lacks the PTW exe file.
I've literally spent hours searching for a legal way to be able to obtain the PTW exe file. It does exist, however upon clicking it you have a pop up that prompts you to put the CD in the drive. Since you bought the game online and downloaded it you have no CD. So as I said at the beginning of the post, you're just better off buying it at the store.
I have a non steam downloaded version of Civ 3 complete and that too just includes the BTS executable. So it's not just the steam version. Luckily I too have the discs if needed, it was the BTS one that died causing me to get the download.
