Civ3/EU2 Dualists + Hearts of Iron

Any of you Civ3/EU2 Dualists (like myself) tempted by the forthcoming Hearts of Iron ?

I've not been on here for well over a month (slap wrists) as I've been completely obsessed with Europa Universalis 2 , as well as [ahem] Championship Manager 4. It's hard trying to remember whether I'm fighting to get Hull City FC promoted to Division One or annexing Portugal with my Galician Conscripts...

This is probably a daft question, but since I haven't spied any news in my absence, have there been any developments for us Mac Civ3'ers as regards PTW or Civ3 Conquests... ?

All I can say fruno is, if you EU2, you'll HOI.

That's what i was fearing ...there's just not enough time to play all these games...

I've got the game...have you been able to conquer all of the other computer players or have you only been able to keep your head above water? Just curious because I have yet to actually start playing.

Presume you mean EU2 (not HOI)... yes, I've not done so badly playing EU2 as England and also as Spain, but I've found it a lot harder, and more time-consuming, than Civ3.

I love the detailed historical aspect it has, something I miss from the old Civ2 days of historical scenarios, and having events files ! I'm looking forward to HOI However, what I miss in EU2 is the micro-management of cities that you have in Civ3... but I guess you can't have it all!?

I just got EU2 and have made my way through the Tutorial. Played a little bit as England, but that is difficult. I think they reckon that Austria is a good nation to start with. Anyway, I am in awe of the Napoleonic scenario -- I'm saving that for a treat later.

Meantime, I agree about enjoying Civ3; the current GOTM is just great and will keep me enthralled for the next week or so.

Me too ! I had a brief try-out as the Russians, and got hammered ! One thing I really like in EU2 is the ability to annex nations you have defeated in war, or have them as vassals. You don't have all the trouble (like you have in Civ3) of having to conquer a bunch of their unproductive cities, with whopping rates of corruption, you can simply vassalize the nation and get 50% of their $/£s and military access- definitely would like to see that in Civ3. Also, the range of religious allegiances is so much more sophisticated and interesting, so you are forced to ally with fellow catholics or protestants or whatever religion your nation currently is... and it's more difficult to conquer a nation/region with a differing religious background - especially in the 'New World'. It makes Civ3's handling of religion, as part of gameplay, look pretty mundane.
