Re-installed Civ3 (Vanillla Original), applied the newest (1.29f) patch, tried to start the game...

A small title screen loads. Error message: "wnaspi32.dll not found", the computer immediately locks up, C+A+D doesn't work, must flip the switch.

Locate the dll, put it in the Civ3 directory, try again. Same title screen loads. Error message: "SCSI host drivers not found". Again, complete lockdown. I'm dumbfounded, since I don't have SCSI devices, and thus can't understand why the thing even tries to look up such things.

When I bought the game back when it came out here in Finland, I never had the multiple problems detailed around this site... My Civ3 ran fine. However, played a single game before switching back to Civ2 and Alpha Centauri, which to me seemed much better games (most probably, I was just more comfortable with their game mechanics).

Now decided to check on my Civ3, and this happens... I initially related this to the 1.29f patch, but did an uninstall using add/remove programs, re-installed the original without the patch, still the same problem. I didn't take a look at the registry, however, so it might still have been screwed if indeed this was a 1.29f screwup.

AMD Athlon 1400+, 512 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti200, 60Gigabyte HD (need to check the manufacturer), Plextor Plexwriter 24/10/40A (since the dll seems linked to CD drives, this might be linked), running Win98SE.

I have done at least one reinstallation of Windows since I last played Civ3, but I do have the latest video, sound and DirectX drivers.

Tried to check Google, no avail. There weren't even that many hits... Checked Atari's forums, nothing immediately applicable. This forum looks most promising, but couldn't do a search since that's offline for now, so sorry if this has been asked and answered before.
