I downloaded the Civ3 game and installed it but I can't remove the download file icon from my desktop. How do I remove this?

Yes I have rebooted, many times. I should have been more clear I guess. After downloading the program and installing it the download icon remained. I tried to delete it over and over again. It says another person or program is using the file so it can't be deleted. I have uninstalled Civ3 and tried to delete the icon, no luck. I booted into safe mood and tried to delete it, no luck. I am assuming the program that is using the file is Windows. I don't know what files in the registry to remove. By the way I am running WindowsXP home version. Thanks for your help.

It won't even delete in SAFE mode? Very strange!

Try clicking "start" then "run", and then type in "MSconfig" (without quotes) and hit enter (I <think> that's right - I'm using Win2000 at the moment).

This should give you a list of all processes that start at start-up. Is there any reference to the download program in there? Still - even some of these should be disabled starting in safe mode.

Have you contacted the company that you downloaded it from? Maybe its required to get product updates or verify the licence or something?
