Hi,

Wondering if this is possible. Looking to run it at 848x480 and not in Virtual Desktop mode like it will default to...

Is there an .ini to edit, or some way to change the resolution?

Todd

Check this post. What you might be interested in:
VideoMode=1280
Can be 1024, 1152, 1280, 1600, 1792. Changes the game's resolution to the value specified (instead of the default 1024x768).
Only the following resolutions are supported with this command:
1024x768
1152x864
1280x1024
1600x1200
1792x1344
And no, there isn't any way that I am aware of to make it *fit* on a wide screen.

I use it on my widescreen laptop (1280x800) using this method:
(copied from another forum)
1. Find file Civilization3.ini
2. Add the line "keepRes=1"
3. Run Civilization3.exe

I think it's conquests.ini if you have the expansion.

I've been quietly playing Civ3 for almost 3 yrs now, so I'm not a total newbie.

Thanks for those settings, it was what I was looking for, although it's not really good news as I was looking for 480p support.

Maybe us HDTV-as-monitor group (all 3 or so) will have enough lobbying support so that Civ4 will support the resolutions as well as games like UT2004 do (most amazing gaming experience of my life).

Thanks, Todd

Can't HDTV handle resolutions higher than 1024x768? if so then you just run the game as normal.

The Macintosh version of 1.29 also supports
1600x1024
1280x854
1440x900
1152x768
1152 x 870

It would support high resolutions but in 1080i, which doesn't look to good. A 720p TV is the best, but they are much more pricey than 480p (what I have).

Yes, the resolution for laptops (with wide screen) remains useful with the "keepres = 1" setting. It is actually much nicer to play with the wide screen! :goodjob:
