Since some of you were very disappointed with the initial release of Civ3, I'm wondering what the buying patterns of the expansion pack will be. Will some of you wait a little longer to give those of us who do buy it the first day time to find anything horribly wrong?

Also, while we're on the subject: what does the beta team look like this time around? I know there wasn't one for the initial release - is it the same story for the expansion?

Also I'm quite aware that this is a horrible poll. There are essentially two different kinds of questions I wanted to ask but I didn't feel like cluttering the forums with two polls - sue me.

well for me ... civ3 is going to have to have some large game changing dynamic changes to be worth the extra cash ... personally im going to find it hard to shell out cash for any more firaxis games ... but that is another story

i will be waiting with baited breath of how this turnless system will work, that could change everything
one thing that i want is some kind of a chance for civil wars and the such, some kind of real espionage and major imporovements in modern warfare
and firaxis history with any kind of a server for games is VERY woefull so that cast dout for internet MP

I'll beat Zouave to it. WE are the Beta Testers.

I will buy it...I am that stupid.

Civ4 I might pause before buying it if published by Infogrames.

I have to figure out where to put the $ in their name....Infograme$ just looks like a spelling error. :D Maybe at both ends: $Infogrames$

Is it Firaxis or Infogrames that we should be more worried about? I think that Firaxis just picked a bad partner to do business with....If they picked a better publisher maybe the game would have come out finished, more like a Blizzard game (although Diablo 2 made me cringe...but what Massive Online game during that time didn't have problems?).

Well, there is one game that had so many bugs that is was unplayable; M.A.X. 2. That was an Interplay game! I don't trust and haven't bought an Interplay game ever since.

I don't know if infogrames has published this game but it won't suprise me if they did! About Firaxis; I like Civ3 very much and will buy the expansion. I don't care if infogrames will make extra money this way, it's just the way things work.

By the way:
Some reporter said: " this game has more bugs than an etmontologist" which made me laugh and cry at the same time as M.A.X. (1) was my favourite game!

ERIKK :D

If Civ4 is an improvement over previous games then I will definitely buy it, but spend more money on Civ3? No way.
I was very disapointed in Civ3 after playing SMAC (I hadn't heard of SMAC until after buying Civ3), Civ3 is definitely a step backwards. I haven't played Civ2 so I can't comment about it's relation to #3.

There is an actual pre-release beta test team this time.

Firaxis didn't really have a choice of publishers. Infogrames OWNS the rights to the name Civilization and all related intellectual properties. Firaxis doesn't. They were contracted by Infogrames to build Civ3. Firaxis can't build Civ4 (for example) without Infogrames permission, without making a lot of drastic changes not least of which would be the name (see SMAC).

Everyone, let that one just sink on in for a second or two.
Then try not to allow your head to explode, ala Scanners.

Ask the Starfleet Command crowd how it goes having Activision taking over the title.
