I know there are some "replay" utilities in existance which will let you review the high-level progress of a game, similar to what you see after you finish a game. But are there utilities that let you see the full details of a game as if you were watching over someone's shoulder while they played?

I suppose such a utility is impossible with the information in a saved game file. The mod would have to be installed while someoen is playing in order to save this extra information.

I would really love such a mod. I have RSI and can't play games that much any more, so I'd like to watch some games.

I would like such a mod too, but the very nature of it implies lots of hard work - and it's virtually impossible with Civ3, considering you'd need to actually alter some code.

What you could do is to write a program along the lines of CivAssist that extract information about the current turn of a progressing game, but saving it in addition. That way you could store as much as you like. It wouldn't work automatically, like you'd have to tell it which game you're playing when and so on, but it sounds like the only solution possible for Civ3.

It would be easier to do in Civ4 - but that's for the future.

You're right in that it's impossible to extract this info from the final save, considering it's not there. :)
