This is strange, but I found with Civ2 that all who never played it seemed to think it was a real nerd game - e.g. my GF. Now, she's hooked on Civ3 ;)

What's WC? I probably know, but I've forgotten.

And I could't get into the Gamespot because I'm not a member, you have to pay. :(

With all of the multimedia movies, WC3 had a much wider appeal... it's like comparing the sales of Myst to the early Civizations.

Like Myst, Wing Commander 3 was included with many other hardware/software bundles... all of those OEM sales were counted in certain online/mainstream calculations... though many hardcore gamers of the time (even many of us who played/liked WC3!) thought those sales should have been counted seperately!!!

Sometimes I really miss the Wing Commander series... too bad Roberts left for supposedly greener pastures, and Garriot sold out to the big boys... don't get me started about the Ultima series! (I grew up with them, starting with the 2nd one!) <grin>

War Craft.

Hmmm. I've not paid anything for it but I got in.

Edit: Well, I didn't get in throught the link either. I originally copied it from a review provided by Inside Mac Games.

hmmmm.... apparently GameSpot has reset their system, I signed up on their system a year or so ago (back when they were still affliliated with Computer Gamers World), but my login has apparently been reset...

Oh, well... it's not like I visited their site much these days... probably why my login was dropped! <grin>

Civilization requires more patience than Blizzard games. An average 10 year old can play Diablo and Warcraft, but any Civilization game would require an unusual 10 year old. I'm sure there are a few 10 year olds who do play Civ3, but I would think it would be unusual for them to play the game without a lot of help.

So wouldn't Blizzard get more sales?

I played civ2 when I was 10... 'Course I had no idea what the difference between entertainers/scientists/taxmen was...

Warcraft is very playable, more so than, say, Command and Conquer. I normally hate real time strategy (I have yet to find an interface I like), but Warcraft 2, especially multiplayer was simple to use but had challenging gameplay, and was a laugh. It reminded me a lot of Dungeon Keeper (love that game), so I hope they don't make it over-serious - the bane of too many games.

I doubt I'll buy it, though.

Ahhhh, a girlfriend who's a Civ fan . . . what more could one ask for? Other than, of course, a hot girlfriend with myopia and a fondness for other Civ addicts who also loves Civ.

I don't care much for WC3, I prefer MOO3 better.

With all the "pretty graphics" and culture BS maybe girls will like it.
Not me.

My computer is not good/new enough to play WC3 :( - but if I had a new computer with a good graphics card I would probably buy it. The 3D graphics looks very nice, maybe a bit cartoonish.
For me Starcraft has been just as fun as Civ2/3, but the SC graphics are old now.
SC/WC is great fun in multiplayer, much faster than Civ.

I believe too that Warcraft 3 (not wing commander 3-hehe) will be the best selling game ever, but it is still overhyped by Blizzard and rewievers because they worked so long time on it and because it is the sequel to one of the best selling series WC1+2+SC.

Nobody mentioned
Red Alert 2 it is a really good game with very nice multiplayer options, you can go to their site and see what is your rank,

overall a really good game

Than good game isnot alway the most popular with the masses. There are some
TV shows that people think is funny I donnot find funny at all. Take Civilization series it was never popular with the masses of people as it make you think for yourshelf and it only appeal to people who like thinking games.

Goes to show you really can't explain movement points and zones of control to most Blizzard gamers...

^_^ But what the heck, WarIII is looks FUN! Can't wait to get my hands on it.

I like to think us (CIV players) like an elite in the game world.
Anyone can play The Sims.
Most can play Age of Kings or Warcraft.
Some can play Age of Empires at it full potencial.
But CIV is only for a few to play, and for the rest to see (spacially CIV3, because of its graphics) [dance]
It (CIV...) requires pacience, strategic thought, good control of game stats (tecs, units, govs, actions, dip actions and its consequences, field adaptation, victory tipe focus,...). I tried to explained it to my mother and you should see the result :crazyeye: ( :) ). And my brother (14-year-old, good at SIMs, NHL, FIFA, Dead or Alive, F1,...) :cringe: and cannot take control of my empire (ok, a short war, where everything is prepared and victory is certain). My father doesn't play games, and my grandmother can't see the difference between Windows and CIV...
At home, they think I'm halfaway to getting craizy, because of staying so long in front of a thing without a understandable explanation. And my brother wants to play with me... FIFA.

So 1 million sales is already a very good number, according to the game requirements (not the computer ones... :D )
