When we talk about multiplayer, do we also talk about PBEM, a email game? Can I do a PBEM with C3C / Windows, or not?

PBEM should be cross-platform, yes.

Sorry Brad, it does not work :(

Yersterday evening I tried to do a turn in our german webring democracy game. (latest windows C3C version)
I loaded the save, no problem.
I did the work (worker actions, unit movement and so on), no problem.
I tried to save it, Problem: “Failed to save Error” and the path to the location where the save should be placed poped up.
I tried different folders on my harddisk, I started the app as Civ3_Complete, I started it as Conquest. I started it in full screen mode, in window mode, quarz on/Off. Well, I tried nearly everything no matter if it makes sense or not to switch this or that option.
I could not save the game.

Additional info:
1. Civ3_Complete quited after displaying the error message, but this seems to be OK because it is a "Save & Exit" option.
2. After quitting I found a "empty box" on my harddisk, this is a file with the name I have given to the save, but 0 KB big.

This looks like a similar problem to the one I reported in item 3 here. For single player games moved from a PC there sometimes seems to be extra data in the save, and it prevents the Mac from saving the game. The symptom I saw is exactly as you describe, complete with a zero length file. As far as we can tell, the extra data probably gets in there when the PC has previously played a PBEM, or maybe another multiplayer option.

I have a clean-up and compression utility in development that can remove this extra data to enable cross-platform succession games to continue. I'd be interested to have a look at the save you have, to see whether I can make the utility work for this case. It may not be successful if the data I'm removing is essential to the PBEM. But maybe it will be OK since Brad thinks PBEM should work without it.

Alan, I will send you the save this night, but therefor I need a valid email addy.

alanh@gotm.civfanatics.net ... or post it here. I'll try stripping the "extra" data and saving the game. If that works we'll then have to see if it still behaves like a PBEM save.

I could attach the save here, but I will not post the password here ;)
So I'll send a email ...

I've played a few turns of PBEM in Complete and looked at the saves it produced, and I'd say the extra PC-generated data we found in the single player saves is quite likely to be equally surplus to requirements in the PBEM saves, as nothing like it appears. So if this is what's causing your problem my utility may well fix it.

Uh - yesterday was Valentine's Day. So, my wife had other plans for the night :D

But I have send the save to both of you just right now.

Hopefully you'll find a way ;)
