After 2 years of working on the same mod ( of the Conquests Middle Ages scenario ) the game still crashes every 10 or 12 turns .
ALL the editor modifications are error free . I am meticulous about checking every download file for errors , testing the unit before incorporation both with Civ3 flc Edit and "ingame", using the Index to ensure the game is happy with the unit or building . I play without sound and elimate all sound files . The upgrade paths are all logical, etc etc . The Pediacons and Civlopedia files are all OK , after 2 years of tweaking the mod is as "clean and perfect" as its ever going to be.
I havent touched the Techs . I have incorporated GoldFools fortifications and Causus Bellis resources icons folder ,anda few new resources. ( keeping the standard 8 luxuries of the original scenario)
My PC is virus and spyware free , with the lastest XP ( works much better with the installation of a newly purchased version )
I reinstall Conquests frequently
I use registry cleaning software , that also allows me to close other programmes that might intrude , ( many of these solutions being helpful tips gained in the Civ 3 forums ).
All I can think of is that there might be some conflict between civ3modbic and the mod .
I use some units in a different way to the vanilla version ,
but if I do so I create a seperate unit folder with a new INI . I have been told that ARMIES and leaders are "delicate" and must occupy the exact slots in the units editor.
If I get a Windows error report,
its usually related to "Device Drivers"
I cant send a screen shot of when the error occurs as the game justs closes ,
It is not related to any unit or building or tech , just totally random
The game plays right to the end , but I am tried of having an enfoced "tea break" every hour or so.
Basically there seem to be 2 possible places to find a solution.
Either there is a problem with my PC system ( doubtful) vanilla plays fine .
or there is a problem with the Civ3 programmes , and I have done something wrong ( likely or rather very very likely)
Any suggestions about where to strt trying to fix this irritating problem would be greatly appreciated
