Civ4 Deleting saved games

Im a newbie to the Civ games, and really enjoying my first game on Civ4..Ive been playing for a couple of days now, but I have a problem that everytime i save the game a new file is created and I can't seem to find how to delete the old saves...So I now have a dozen files each one bigger than the next in my saved games when I really only want one or two.

Could someone please help and tell me how to delete saved games? thank you

the saves are all kept in
my games\<gamename>\saves
if you are playing single player games they are in
my games\<gamename>\saves\single\
that is where you can delete them - its not possible to do so ingame.
