Conquistador 63 - looks like you beat me in the space race. Blasted. I had a pretty delayed and mismanaged start so I am not surprised. But no one had posted any faster space wins thus far, and I had hoped the lack of aluminum would have been a disincentive for many.

If I recall the nearest coal was also in Washington's land. Though I was able to trade for it pretty easily and eventually popped some at one of my mines in the late game.

I had also considered going after Washington but realized in my case it would have slowed me down. As I said my start was not very well executed. Instead I just grew organically and cottaged everything. Later on Washington was also a great tech trading partner.

Space Defeat to Roosevelt - 1844AD.

I'm late playing the game this month, and was going to write a long description, but I'm now tempted to state "see above" as it was similar to many other people's games.

Shocking, shocking, shocking start... my 1st Warrior was eaten by a Panther... 1st Worker was eaten by a Lion... 2nd Settler killed by a Barb Warrior... did I mention it was shocking......

Goody huts were kind to me - popped Mining to the north and Masonry to the south.

A lot of Barbs in general - according to the Stats at the end of the game, I killed 40 Barb units, losing 10 of my own units in the process. I had several fortified fog-busting units, but the Barbs were still spawning with alarming frequency.

All of which meant that my REX was painfully slow, and my empire was far far smaller than optimal. Relations with all AIs were good, and there were no wars the whole game, so I aimed at a Diplomatic victory.

In a breathtaking act of generosity, Washington was kind enough to gift me Mass Media, before the UN had been built anywhere!!! Although I didn't have a Great Engineer to hurry the UN, so had to attempt building it manually. But 2 or 3 turns later, Hatty completed the UN, thereby ending my victory hopes. FDR completed his spaceship soon after.

Started with samurai and cats (Cyrus), grens (Chem with Liber) started to pop around Asoka, then Hatty with my grens vs her lbows and lastly Wash, who finally had rifles. Settling (non-opimally) empty spaces and waiting for border pop then.

1650 Domination. What a lot of work that was. Maybe my final score will get me some metal ?

One big mistake I made was automatically building Heroic Epic in my capital. There was another candidate with a lot more hammers throughout the game.

I wonder has anyone gone Conquest? I'd see it work if you can sgn up last against another runner-up, so that you can then drown both with your units.

I could have done Conquest by simply razing everything after I conquered America-1, Egypt and Mali. But it would have taken *even more time*. I wouldn't have made the submission date.
