Civ4 has lost the "one more turn" status!

Dunno about you people, but I played this game for a grand total of three days before becoming bored.

I played Civ3 for years before becoming bored, and even then I was mostly stopped from continued playing by multiple issues with my computer, lightning, and... bleh!

The new additions are great, cool, wonderful, stuff I enjoyed... but the game itself lacks that 'play me now, biatch!' draw that even Civ3 managed.

In summation, I unilaterally declare that Civ4 has voided all rights to the 'One more turn' status unless Sid really gets cracking!

In the mean time, I think I will go paint a house that needs it bad... just one more stroke!

EDIT: To be honest, this is my final goodbye to the forum.

My gripe is more on the technical side, I wish the game did not CTD in the late stages. That is the thing that kills my "one more turn" feeling.....

If the patch fixes all that......then heh, I have another addiction on my hands...

Have you ever stopped to think it's because you played Civ3 for years?
Personally I say it's because you're tired and need to sleep. I usually get that way about games.

Sleep, play, sleep, play, sleep, play, drink water so you don't die, and then sleep and play some more!

*shrug* I guess it's all a matter of taste. I only played civ 3 for a couple of months, and then maybe for one more month when conquests came out and fixed up the game. I've been playing 4 nonstop since I've bought it and find it much more addictive.

Aeon has 1200-odd posts, so this isn't your usual join-the-forum "Goodbye Cruel World" post. Sorry to see you go away disappointed, Aeon.

I don't know, i played Civ III for about 2 days before gettin insanely bored. But i played Civ I and II for years before gettin bored...i think Civ IV could be just as long as well...i really find it addictive! But that could also be because i have less free time now to play so play more in moderation.

I haven't been this addicted to civ since civ I... II and III never kept me playing for days on end. OK, they did sometimes now I think about it, but civ I was much much worse, and it seems I've reverted to the slave to the machine form I had when I was thirteen :crazyeye:

I can't agree with the title. The more I play Civ4, the more I love it :goodjob:

People will disagree with this statement but I still think its a valid one. This is the 4th of its "kind" so of course people are going to get a little bored with it. Personally I love the game and do so even more now that the Blue Marble mod is out. Takes playing it to a whole new level. :goodjob:

When I first got my copy I was dissapointed that the game went by so fast!
But with a little modding Ive modded my game so now ive got like 750+ turns slow, slow, tech advances, & I love IT!!!

Ahh the power of modding.

After the first few games i felt alike. Well, after more playing its back, and as strong as before. There are still things i like to be changed in future patches, but i have the urge for just ... one ... more ... turn ;).

Too early for me to tell. As soon as I can play a game without technical issues I'l decide for myself.

But the real indicator is not if it has the 'one more turn' factor in the first few months; all decent games have that to a degree...

The real indicator is whether Civ4 'will stand the test of time'.

Will it still be challenging and interesting after 3 months or so...after 6 months...after 3 years...

I think "one more turn" depends a lot on your knowledge of the game.

If you know that you're just 2 turns away from a certain tech that allows a certain building which will finally allow your capital to grow which means you can afford a scientist specialist, which means you can build an academy, which means you can research the tech that gives you cavalry faster, which means you can finally take back that city that Kublai Khan took from you 2500 years ago.

I think Civ is so addictive because it blends long-term goals so well with short-term ones. It's the short-term goals (like getting a great person or discovering a certain technology) that make you want to see the next turn, and it's the long-term goals (killing the Buddhist Mongol infidels) that give the game its replayability and provide a reason for making short-term goals in the first place.

If you don't know the game well enough, you don't know what is about to happen, and so you're not as excited to see what unfolds the next turn. I love it when I make a certain move based on something I think will happen 100 turns in the future and it works out just as I had imagined.

I found that with Civ3, I played Vanilla for around 2-3 months and got "bored". I did realise that until after C3C came out and I started "lapping" Civ3 up again, that I wasnt actually "bored", I just didnt know HOW to play the game properly (i.e. on levels higher than Regent/Monarch (in Civ3) where it does start getting difficult for some, including me). Although I was still around here lurking the whole time.

In a way, I am a little "bored" once again with Civ4 at times however I do believe that is to do with my lack of knowledge with some of the finer concepts of the game. Also, I think I need a jump up in difficulty. Difficulty is probably a major point regarding boredom. If you play it on easy a level, it does get boring. I guess in a way if you were to play it on a level 3 or 4 times higher than your usual difficulty, you might be bored at times too if you are constantly getting your arse kicked by the A.I. But hey, treat it as a game to learn (not just about history, but strategy as well) and I think the boredom wont arrive for quite a while.

One other reason is that I am very watchful of my time now playing Civ. I dont want to spend all day or all night anymore playing any game. There are other things to be done - however that doesnt mean I dont put the hours into Civ when I can.

Wow! 200th post. Cool

My experience has been somewhat similar. Played the game hard for the first couple of days. Now my sessions don't seem to last more than half a dozen turns. That "just one more turn" factor doesn't seem to be there for me either. And only a few weeks before I bought this game, Civ Conquests was keeping me up half the night.

I haven't totally given up hope though. It's still a highly moddable game. Now if only I can drum up enough interest to actually do some...

Sorry to see you go, Aeon.

(shrug) Everyone is different, I guess. I played Civ3 for about a week and a half when I first got it then uninstalled it because I was bored. I then re-installed it a year later and played it repeatedly for three years! I played Civ 4 for a week straight after I got it, but now I haven't played for days. I suspect the novelty wears off before the groove kicks in. But go ahead! Abondon Civ 4 early! More for us!

My sentiments EXACTLY-- only better than I said it.
