Hello,

This is the first Civilization game I have ever played, and I'm having a blast! I downloaded this piece of art from Direct 2 Drive, which means no hand printed manual. Unforunatley, my acrobat reader gives me a "program not responding" error no matter what I do, including a complete uninstall and reinstall.

So basically, I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing!! I have the fundamentals down, but I'm sure I'm missing out on so much. I am playing as the Romans and started in the Classical era. For some reason, my religion is "Judism." I conquered the Mongols, and some of my cities are Hindu.

Basically, my question is: How do I convert to Christianity? All I can build are Hindu and Judism temples. How do I create a Christianity missionary? How do I construct Christianity temples? Basically, how does my empire become Christian to put it short!!??

I appreciate any responses, or for those who even took the time to read my probably boring, and unintellgent question.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply Ogre,

But that's an awful lot of reading!!! Any direct answer I could get from someone? Sorry if I come off as being lazy :crazyeye:

Remember, I know the basics, it's just the converting religion aspect!!

Thanks again

Easiest way to convert is click on the 'Convert Religion' icon in the top right hand corner of the screen > click on the Religion you want (in this case Christianity) and click on the 'convert' button - Done.

Be careful before you do so though - it could well have a detrimental effect on your Civ, particularly if most of your cities are following a different religion from the one you intend to swap to (they won't automatically change when you convert).

Good luck :)

if another ciilisation oryou yourslef has/have already discovered christianity you can convert by clicking f7. that brings you to the switch religions menu. however, you can not unless christianity has spread into at least one of your citys. you also can`t build a temple of a certain religion in a city unless that religion has spread to that city. ( if you can only build hinduism and judaism temples, that is because your citizens don`t know any other religions yet). Once you have converted to christianity you can speed up the process of spreading the religion by switching to the theocracy civic, witch stops any other religions from spreading in your empire and by building monasterys (same rules apply here as with temples) to build missionaries which you can then send to your "heathen" citys.
I hope I didn`t tell you to many things you knew already

You need to have that religion in one of your cities to produce missionaries.

That is why it is important to be the first to discover techs that found religions. You get the religion, sometimes an additionnal missionary AND you get the Holy city for that religion.

If you're trying for christianity, you need to be the first to discover theology OR have open borders with the AI that has founded it and wait for them to send over a missionary... in my experience, this last option is extremely rare.

To build missionaries, you need either that religion's monastery OR organized religion civic.

If you want to develop Christianity yourself, you have to be the first civ to reach the Theology tech. This will give you the holy city for Christianity and one free missionary to try to convert another city. (To convert more, you'll either have to research Priesthood and build monasteries, or switch to the Organized Religion civic (available with Monotheism.) Either of those things will allow you to build more missionaries. There would be a small chance each turn of other of your cities to spontaneously convert to Christianity, too, but only if the city didn't already have a religion.)

If on the other hand, someone else has already reached Theology ahead of you and has the holy city, then you're down to only two options if you really, really want Christianity in particular (note that in terms of the game itself, all religions are completely equivalent):
-- capture the holy city (or any city that already has Christianity), then start spreading it as described above, or
-- wait for Christian civs to start sending missionaries to you, then once they do, work on spreading it yourself. Note that this could potentially take a very long time. You'll need to have Open Borders with any Christian civs, for starters.

I really appreciate the replies guys! I have open borders with every civ, and am ranked #2 next to Alexander (I guess not too bad for my first game!) Yes, I suppose I will have to sack a city which contains Christianity, and spread it from there :)

If I have any problems, I will report back, due to the friendly community here!

That's the spirit! Sacking a city to spread a non-violent religion makes perfect sense.
*This game is so funny sometimes.
Heh heh. Good luck in your game! ;)

Yeah just think how we could spread the word of the lord by bombing the vatican into the ground and sending in marines! Of course I suppose the chistianity holy city would have been in the middle east in RL but those poor suckers have been bombed enough.
