Civ4 PitBoss Available

A group of friends are testing pitboss again, but the pitboss holder is having the same problem as with the previous version: after two or three days of perfect playing (5-6 human players, some AI), the upload start rising until all bandwidth (300Kb) collapses. Are we doing something wrong?

No you are not doing anything wrong , the 'nice' sofware is ...
It happens all the time with me ... 2-3 days perfect then the bandwidth monitor shows 300kb/s upload , but thats mainly from the PC to the router (i bet you are with router) ...

what do you mean by "the previous version" ?
its exactly the same .. they added two more option , an admin pass , cleared the "&ampFile" (which shouldnt be in a beta ... gamma probably) and cleared the color strings from the chat .... they havent touched anything else ... and all these small bugs shouldnt been in the beta in the first place ....

sorry fraxis you can do better ... for so much money earned you can hire someone to write applications that i wrote in my first year in college

Gyathaar,

Your tool works great. Great job!

Thanks a ton, my Pitboss game is back up and running! :)

Has anyone gotten two instances running on the same machine? I had two running on the beta version, but with the new version it seems to ignore the /ALTROOT parameter. The weird thing is that it starts up and looks like it's running, but I can't connect to the 2nd instance's port (2066).

I tested.. I started with /ALTROOT=c:\pbtest

exited program.. edited the ini file inside pbtest dir.. set the port to 6666

started pitboss again with same altroot.. and it was listening to port 6666

I thought of something right after I posted, and I think I discovered the problem.

I can load up a 2nd Pitboss game under a different port 2066, but can't seem to get a mod (Desert War) to run under the same port. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I guess I could stop the normal game, run the mod under 2056 and the normal game under 2066, but that seems cludgey.

Thanks!

Ah, excellent tip Gyathaar!

Basically, it appears that when Pitboss starts if you choose a mod not already loaded (the loaded mod will be the default selection), it restarts and doesn't carry through the /altroot parameter.

I tried setting the mod= parameter, but nothing I did could get it to be recognized. I tried quotes, no quotes, double quotes, prefixing Mods\ to the directory, pretty much every variation I could think of and a few google suggested.

I ended up setting it in the shortcut I use to call Pitboss. After my /altroot, I added this: mod="\"Mods\Desert War\"" (I got that from the Pitboss command window - not sure if all the double quotes are actually needed)

Anyway, thanks for the tip Gyathaar. It was exactly what I needed to get moving foward.

So does email notification work in the new version here? If so how do you enable it or is it enabled automatically if you fill in the smtp server and such..

Also does changing around your player profile settings screw up your password still? Im out at the moment or id test it myself.

Hey,

We want to start a PB game at work. Everyone takes a turn a day. We all Have it installed on our machines at work ready to go, but I noticed We play LAN Game and can connect to the game and play, but I can choose any Race, take a turn and can leave, then come back, take a different race adn take a turn.

How can you password protect a race so that only YOU can take the turn?
It doesnt' make sense if your buddy can log in and take your turn or mess with your guy...

Any Ideas?
Thanks

I found the problem...

You must use DirectIP Game, not LAN Game. I guess the thinking is, for a LAN game, you're all in the same area, so if someone takes your turn you just go beat them down...you can set passwords for races in DirectIP game

thanks

Does anyone get this problem where pitboss continues to send data to a player for ages even after the player has disconnected?

EDIT: It looks as though the solution to this is to have the players exit to the menu first and then quit, rather than exiting straight to the desktop.

It looks like I can get it to load a pbem game while in PB but dont have the admin pass for it.
Will create at pbem and see but I have my doubts if it can actually be done.
