Civ4 running slow

I am a long time player of the civilization series. Starting playing original Civ way back in the day and just recently purchashed 4. However it is running kind of slow and I keep getting a running low on virtual memory message. I knew my comp was borderline when I purchashed the game but I do meet the minimum requirements. Any suggestions on how I can speed things up?

1.3 Pentium
512 MB RAM
Windows 2000/PE
NVIDIA GeForce 4800 64MB
1.52 Patch Installed

Like I said...meets the minimum, but I'm very disappointed at the speed which the game is running.

You are right on the edge on the minimum spec

Pop back in Tomorrow around 9pm - midnight GMT - Neon Deon is usually in around then (maybe earlier being a Saturday), and is good at squeezing more out of what you have. Meanwhile post your Dxdiag, it will help him sort a few things

I figured it out. Some adjustment to the virtual memory settings and redirecting it to my larger hard drive made a HUGE difference.
