Civ4 won't load

I am having trouble loading Civ4 special edition. It used to load but does not anymore. I uninstalled Civ4 and reinstalled it. I have a windows 7 operation system. I also tried the procedure of installing patches 1.61 and 1.74. When I goto start the game, it looks like it is trying to start because I can see the round circular cursor but after about 3-5 seconds the cursor goes away and nothing else is happening. Any ideas as to what I should do? Thanks

Microsoft released a patch in September that, among other things, prevents discs using the copy protection scheme that CIV uses from being accessed. Have a look at the file in this forum titled "Please login with administrator privileges and try again" for an explanation, discussion, and a few work arounds to allow you to once again access your discs.
