Hi folks,
I'm a long time Civfanatics reader/lurker and I can't say enough how the strategies and advice I've read on these forums have helped me grow as a player over the years. Having played the Civ series in one form or another since CivNet, I've never really challenged myself to go very high in difficulty. With my work situation slowed down at the moment, I decided to see if I could begin to put the pieces together to get some wins at higher difficulty levels, starting at King (I've begun to win at Prince pretty regularly). My goal is to eventually be able to play Emperor or Immortal with some degree of competence, but I've got a long way to go. I've been enjoying many LP's on YouTube for a number of years (Marbozir, Arumba, Quill18 to name a few) and they look like they're having a blast so I figured I'd give recording a shot as well.
Soupy81 is the result of me finally working past anxiety and nerves to actually put something out there. I love to play the game with a fair number of modded civs as I love the diversity, as well as a few other flavour and gameplay ones. I have two playlists up, the first ending at 6 videos due to me updating a mod by accident and making the save file unhappy with me; and the second one which is ongoing as Japan. I'm having a great time narrating as I go. I've never been an aggressive type player and I'm sure that shows but it's something I'm trying to overcome as I'd like to strive toward a domination victory. I'm constantly getting distracted by a quick wonder or a building I think I need rather than building an army however, and that's something I'm slowly working on.
Anyway, if you decide to head over and check it out I want to thank you in advance. It's crazy for me to comprehend that people are watching me play and might even be enjoying it. My 3 year old son thought it was the coolest thing that his dad's voice and face were on youtube (before he went back to asking for more Doobie Brother's videos).
I will warn you, the audio in the first series is absolutely awful. I upgraded from a headset mic to a Blue Snowball for the second series, as well as using Audacity to record my audio desperately and allow me to tinker with it to the best of my ability.
