Civ6 Leaders' Backgrounds Inspirations

Is there a repository of all the backgrounds without the leaders somewhere? I think they would make nice wallpapers.

Llanos (Prairie region in Colombia) with some cattle.

I don't quite think Bolívar's background is in the Llanos (plains) regions of Colombia. The plant that appears at the right side of his background is called frailejón in Spanish and is part of the Espeletia genus, which is a group of plants that are only native to really high altitude and very cold Andean areas of Colombia, Ecuador and parts of Venezuela. On the other hand, the Llanos (plains) region has a warmer and more tropical climate, in which this kind of plants wouldn't be capable of growing.

I'd argue that the background is actually in a high-altitude Andean tundra (or Páramo in Spanish) and the appearance of a cow in the background might be more related to the fact that Bolívar and his army (perhaps including resources such as cattle, due to the large amount of Llaneros that were part of the army) famously crossed the Andes through harsh environments such as this one in order to conduct surprise attacks against the Spanish. This happened before the Battle of Boyacá, which allowed him to conquer Bogotá and establish it as his capital. With this in mind, I would say that the precise location of Bolívar's background is the Páramo de Pisba in Boyacá, Colombia.

The cow could also be explained by the fact that nowadays some of these lands are being used for cattle raising, however I doubt that happened in Bolívar's time and it is something that currently is prohibited to avoid damaging the ecosystem of the area. Maybe the cow is just added in there because the artist thought it looked cool (or maybe as a hint to the Spanish Civ symbol in the game :mischief:)

How did you get this Image of Yongle's Background? Is it from the Civ official website? Are there images for Wu Zetian and Qin Shi Huang (Unifier)?

Ok. I'm gonna update for Portugal and the other released Leader pass leaders.

got it from this post, the others are higher in the thread

Kublai Khan (China)
Kublai Khan (Mongolia) Greeting 1.png

Seems like the Mongolian steppes in the background? And a river. With some birds (Vultures? Birds of Prey?) flying above.

Joao III (Portugal)
Joao III Greeting 1.png

It seems to be the Torre de Belem (also an in-game World Wonder!). Imagine a different Civ building it before Portugal. I like the rosiness of the background.

Abraham Lincoln (America)
Abraham Lincoln Greeting 1.png

Presumably a room in the White House during Lincoln's time. There's a desk and chair, a window, and the American flag.

Saladin (Sultan) (Arabia)
Saladin (Sultan) Greeting 1.png

I think it's Saladin's tent during his military campaigns. There are more army tents in the background. There's a mountain in the background which could be one of the Horns of Hattin.

Tokugawa Ieyasu (Japan)
Tokugawa Ieyasu Greeting 1.png

A Japanese Castle. I need to do some research later on Tokugawa's castles. Could be Himeji Castle, Okazaki Castle (his birthplace) or Edo Castle.

Nzinga Mbande (Kongo)
Nzinga Mbande Greeting 1.png

Some big waterfall. Likely located in present day Angola?

Suleiman (Muhtesem) (Ottomans)
Suleiman (Muhtesem) Greeting 1.png

Presumably in Topkapi Palace in Istanbul.

Nader Shah (Persia)
Nader Shah Greeting 1.png

Possibly an Afsharid Mosque? It has a long pool in front of it.

Julius Caesar (Rome)
Julius Caesar Greeting 1.png

Presumably another scene from the Roman Forum. The Triumphal Arch resembles that of later Roman Emperors though, like Septimius Severus.

Seems like an early version of the Great Wall.

Wu Zetian (China)

Tang Dynasty style Architecture. There seems to be a long bridge behind the main building. I like the use of red lanterns. Not sure if this is meant to be a palace complex. It could just be a scene in the capital city.

Yongle Emperor (China)

Forbidden City. Which makes sense since its present form originates from the Ming Dynasty.

I think Tokugawa’s castle is more like Okazaki Castle, his birthplace. Or it is supposed to be Edo Castle.
Okazaki looks like a good candidate, too.

A beautiful night scene with a Seowon (did they even had this architecture during the Shilla period)? and a Torii-looking gate.
THAT IS NOT torii gate! That is real life building built during Silla period called Hongsalmun and there was no Seowon during Silla period either. First Seown came about in mid Chosen period... THOUSANDS of years after her death.

I am Polish, and I'm interested in history and architecture, AND I've travelled all over Poland.

First, the building in Jadwiga's background is NOT a castle, but a church.

Second, I have no idea what real life church it could be. It is somewhat similar to the fortified 16th century church at Brochów, but many details do not match. The 1928-1929 church dedicated to Saint Jadwiga in Zabrze is vaguely similar to the one in the background, too, but again many details are off.

I will do some more research into this, but at the moment I am inclined to think Jadwiga's background is either pure fantasy, or only loosely based on reality.

Ok thanks! Torii and Hongsalmun both originate from the same Indian source (Torana gates), so forgive me for being confused about it.

I'm posting some in-game pics for some leaders whose older models I used in my original post. Just for fun!
