CivAssist II

CivAssist II 30-Oct-2016

Yeah that is my guess too, but then again if I wanted to predict some corruption changes (be it by infrastructure, government change, etc) I'd need to change the wealth "production" just to do that and set it back later. I know the percentage is shown anyway, but I'd just like to preview the shield production faster than doing that calculation. Maybe it's a minor issue, but if this could be avoided in any way it would be a lot better.

Is there any chance Ainwood or another moderator can place the directions you should follow to get CAII to work on Vista?

IIRC, they are:
1)Make sure you have Microsoft .Net v1.1 and the v1.1 Hotfix
2)Install CAII
3)Right-click the executable file and select "properties"
4)On the "Compatibility" tab select the following
a)"Run in compatibility mode" and select Windows XP (service pack 2)
b)"Run as administrator"

It should work then, with maybe a few crazy quirks, but if you restart the program it should go back to working again.

I think it would be helpful to have it in OP, rather than having to search the entire thread for the directions. Just my opinion...

I have just loaded C3C and CA2 onto my laptop (Windows 7). All works okay, BUT as I play CA2 keeps flashing (opening the window very quickly, and closing again) onto my screen and dissapearing. 2 people have mentioned it before in the threads, but no-one has mentioned a solution. Can anyone help please?

I have had that happen under Windows XP.........My solution is to click on the CA II window when its open and then it stays open.

Maybe that will work for you, too. :)

I run Civ 3 in Windowed mode, and am attempting to get Civ Assist working. The problem I currently am having is that when the alert box comes up and shows new alerts, when I try to hide it until new alerts the button seems to flash very rapidly, as thought I were moving my mouse over it and off of it very very rapidly. This leaves me to spam click the window until the timing of the click lines up with me hovering over the hide button at the right time. Anything I can do to alleviate this?

My computer runs Vista, and I am using Civ 3 complete (so conquests).

mine seems to do the same thing, but if you just click it once and then move the mouse off the away from the alerts box, it disappears.

Here's something that causes the whole program to malfunction.
When you maximize the main window while running civ3, go back to playing the game, and then try coming back to CA2, the window never shows up. The program is still running, and even if you quit civ3, the program is still running fine, you just can't see the window (therefore, it's just as bad as a crash because you have to re-start the program.)

Now, that's not a major issue, because eventually you remember to not maximize the window while running civ3, but if you forget, it's kind of annoying

Does anyone have CivAssist II running under Windows 7 Home Premium? :)

Oct 13, 2010 Edit: Yes, ME!! I got it working by buying a Windows 7 Upgrade Pack.....to upgrade my computer from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate. :)

Looks like a great program!

Unfortunately, I can't get it to install.

MS takes me to another page to download .NET. Fine, I go there, repair my .NET, reboot, then run the CAII install. It says I need a particular version of .NET, one which apparently no longer exists. If I tell it to skip, it exits back to desktop. If I tell it do the .NET thing, it reinstalls my .NET for 5 minutes or so, then tells me to reboot, which I do. Restart CAII install, it tells me I need to install .NET

AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

Any suggestions? Windows 7 Home Premium, and as this is my primary work machine, (self employed) I can't really go out and get another version of Windows.

Thanks!

Bad News: I also had Windows 7 Home Premium and couldn't get CAII to work!

Good News (sort of): I upgraded my machine to Windows 7 Ultimate via an official Windows software download (for circa $80)........Now I can run CAII in XP mode! :)

After installing .NET, my machine would appear to lock. Task manager revealed that rundll32 was hogging 90%+ of the CPU, and would do so for at least 20 minutes every time I started Civ. (At that point, gave up and shut down.) I uninstalled .NET and the problem remained. Well, most of the time. Starting from a cold boot, about 25% of the time, Civ would start up fine with the exception that now I have to click on a box saying its OK for Civ to make changes to my machine. The rest of the time, again from a cold boot, it would go to rundll32 hell. Worse, the failure analysis program I use for work experiences the same problem.

I've tried reinstalling the programs (Civ and failure analysis) to no avail and I'm out of ideas. .NET seems to have hosed my machine, or about 75% hosed it. And the company that supplies my engineering S/W says it will cost me $1500 or so for them to accelerate support for Win7 Ultimate, so I'm much better off buying a new laptop with a clean install of Home Premium and just not bother with CA until MS fixes .NET or the engineering S/W supports Ultimate.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just so frustrated that Microsoft .NET appears to be incompatible with Windows. Is Tomas still around? Does anyone else know how I can get back to what I had? How to completely undo what .NET install did to my machine?

Thanks!

howdy ainwood,

[i'll pm a link back to this post to you just in case you've unsubscribed this thread.]

while i doubt you are too interested in it anymore, _i_ am still interested in civassist. [*grin*] back in 2009-08 you offered to recompile it for the new[er] version of dot-net.

have you done that? i am [almost] totally unconcerned with bugs/upgrades. what i desire is to be able to run civassist on windows 7 without the various runarounds caused by the dot-net version glitches with the current version of civassist.

if you aren't interested any longer, would you post the code to someplace like sourceforge so someone else can be talked into reworking it?

perhaps a bribe or two? [*grin*] i can afford a small paypal donation - $5 or so. others might well be willing to join in that offer. my offer is good in advance ... ooooo! [*grin*]

take care,
lee

I could not get CA II to run on my Win 7 Home premium either. it was the .NET thingy too.

I went for CRP suite as I liked it but I just got used to CAII. Oh well, welcome to Windows Gehenna I checked in here just in case it could be better.

@darski: You probably saw my post #1029 above.......But, just in case you didn't is the reason I'm mentioning it. :)

This computer cost me a couple of pennies up front and then I just had the "Dell , :bday: happy birthday surprise:bday:" which cost me another $400.oo in fixes and upgrades.

Microsoft won't be getting another penny from me forever if I can help it.

howdy y'all,

hopefully ainwood will get the pm i sent him and respond. even if he has lost interest [understandably, since he's apparently involved with newer versions of civ] i hope he might be willing to open source the code.

then i could try bribing someone to do the update. [*grin*]

his user page here shows this ...
"Most Recent Message: Oct 24, 2010 06:33 AM"

... so he does drop still by once in a while..

take care,
lee

I will keep an eye on this thread as I would like to have CAII. Thank you.

Does CAII take into account modified cultural limits when calculating the time for a cultural victory?
