CivAssist II

CivAssist II 30-Oct-2016

Is there any way to change the key for minimizing/maximizing the window? I'm sick of having to alt+tab back to the game every time I want to talk to people I'm playing with.

Does your window manager/operating system not give you the option to remap keys?

I just DL'ed and tried CivAssist 2, but am running into some problems that make it more of a nuisance than a help. I am not getting any alerts (from what I had expected, I wasn't getting alerts about things such as over researching a tech) and as well, the main window keeps popping up and minimizing rapidly which gets rather irritating in short order. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Alerts are control by enabling each one in the options. There is an option or setting to have CA stay on top or not. Not sure about the minimizing aspect.

I decided to finally download the program, but it's not working. First I installed the .net whatever version 4, because I thought "newer is better, right?". But that version was no good so then I installed the one that was linked to in the OP. But now I get this error message when I start the program:

An unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will be shut down immediately.

Access to the registry key is denied.

When I click "Details", it says this:

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

If I click on "Continue", the program starts but nothing is shown in the view when I load a savefile.

Can anyone help me? I have Windows Vista btw.

I had a bunch of issue when I went to Win7. That included loading a save and seeing no alerts.
I finally start over and ran the setup as admin. Set properties to CAII to run as admin and it works now.

If you know where the information is, then please redirect me there instead of wasting time and effort on b¡tching.

howdy Zefyrinus,

have you noticed the "search this thread" in the upper left of this page? [*grin*] have you tried it? if so, let us know and we'll help. otherwise ... why help one who won't even _try_ to find the answer?

take care,
lee
I don't know what words to search for.

Now I checked a few pages back. Is it this?:
That didn't help me because there is no "Run as administrator" box.

Whenever I run it I get the following error message:

2Mtxf.jpg

Also, I have "Run as Administrator" and XP mode turned on. Also, it installed so I believe the .net framework to be correct.

Finally, when I click on cancel to "debug" it, it says a debugger cannot be found, maybe that is my problem, so... What's a debugger and where can I get one?

I clicked on cancel once, and it said some thing about a file called "cordbg.exe" so I googled that, but I can't figure out how to use the file, or even if I have it on my computer. (I didn't see a DL link)

I think I have the problem fixed, I am setting up my good ole XP desktop. :)

I have stayed away from Civ III for a year now because CivAssist is such a fantastic program, I can no longer play without it. However even after reading all the posts, including snarky comments from people who find this computer stuff easy. I could not make CivAssist work on XP and now that I have Windows 7 I still can't load it in and make it work.

I've read the posts and I still can't make it work...

I finally got it loaded (after a lot of choice words/install/deletes/reinstall etc) but it does not show my present game.
I let CivAssist pick the disk location but the little icon does not pop up.
How do I get CivAssist to find the game files?

You should not need to deal with .net. I am using the lastest one, just fine. I think it is 4.0.xxxx.

When you start CAII do you get the pop up asking, if it is ok to make changes to the system? If you do not then it is not running as admin.

You have choice then, either go the install folder for CAII and right click on the exe. Select properties. Select Compat and near the botton select run as admin.

Then if C3C is also running as admin, the saves will go where you expect and CAII will be able to access them. That is the x86 folder.

The reason you are not seeing the saves now is that they are in the normal location \\..(x86)\info...\civiii..\Conquests\Saves. The x86 is protected and only admin apps can use it.

If you cannot get CAII to run as admin, you can change C3C to not run as admin. Then it will put the save in a USER folder. Copy the save from the normal x86 location to the user location. Both will then use that folder and be happy.

You probably have a save there already. Search for .sav and find the full path. It will be USER\Appdata and then you have three folder. It can use any of them.

Local
LocalLow
Roaming

Roaming the most comon, then Microsoft\Windows in all three and go from there. I made a shortcut to the saves and stuck in the start menu. I dl lots of saves to check and I prefer to put all dl on the desktop.

Then I can copy them where I want them and a shortcut makes it easy. BTW the Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu folder is where the start menu is located.

I don't know if this is a bug or if it's by design, but the 'Local Economy' listview (Economy tab) displays 0 shields for every city that is set to produce wealth, regardless of the real shield production. This is bothersome sometimes, especially when you want to predict corruption and waste in different scenarios, which seems to be one of the major points of the whole feature.

Just a guess, but it is likely that is due to shields being converted to wealth. IOW no shields go into production, if you are in wealth.
