Don't forget when they sign on they have no research so they only thing they can do is knock out signs and torches.

Hmm. if there's going to be a new world soon I'll save my energy for that instead of starting any bigger builds in this one.

Somebody recommended the Hawaiian islands for the next game, and I liked that idea. It would include plenty of the new jungle biome, as well as volcanoes. Not sure when one will be available, though.

This sounds awesome. If there is a new world that is going to be starting up soon I will wait for that. I won't be back in town until Friday, though. I will check back in then.

Hawaiian Islands also have plains, grasslands, beaches, ravines, marshe, forests...

I, DAKLER, as the administrator for DrMo's server would like to say hi to the population of croxis' server

I think ogr made that suggestion.

I recommend not too much water. Last thing we need is heaps of islands and the need to sail about. We could introduce movecraft again in world 9 though, if we use a seed with a huge seas. Then, with fire charges, we can make frigates, galleons and ships of the line (civ 4 BTS)!!! But fire mode needs to be on, only for ships. :D

I'm all for water and boats, but Movecraft is way outdated now. :(

Sadly movecraft isn't maintained anymore. My dad was born in Hawaii so he has a fondness for it :) I like the style of landmass we have now, an isolated continent, but I do agree it is a bit big. I want to point out an issue with using existing real world terrain in that there isn't a lot of striking terrain. There will be a lot of flatness with little elevation changes and most mountains you wont notice. I've started playing around with some tools and if I do find something that works I will let you all know.

DAKLER and DrMo, if you guys want we can link out servers. You can set your end up so not anyone can go through keeping it exclusive, but it would have linked chats and freedom of movement for those youve allowed.

    Updates on the server front:

We are using a server mod called Bukkit which allows the use of plugins. Anything that isn't in the vanilla minecraft server, from block protection to economy to towny, is added through plugins. This team just got hired by Mojang to make a new server with the same kind of features. This means Bukkit probably wont exist anymore after 1.3

Spout server however will be ready at this time. It has a lot of features, such as cubic chunks allowing for infinite height that still workes with standard, unmodded, vanilla clients. My plan is to move to this when it is ready in a couple months. If we are midworld I will just port our existing world over.

Your Dad is one lucky man to be born in Hawaii. ;)

This reminds me. Your previous world (7) so strongly required spout that if you joined it via minecraft, you'd just be a fuzzy minecraft screen. It would be yet another method of griefing protection. :) I just offer these basic suggestions in order to possibly reduce your workload on dealing with griefers, croxis, because you are busy with other things most of the time and the rollbacks do not cover lost/stolen items. ;)

I've thought about it and I can just flat out restrict clients to spoutcraft only, but when 1.2 comes it will be some time before it is updated. I also do want to try and be inclusive of other players who come in.

Another options is to run a "grey list" when anyone can log in, but only those approved by a mod can begin to play. What would probably help is if one of the major cities is at or near the spawn point to help keep an eye on things. It does bias recruitment to that city though. Each solution has its own problems.

Oh, the other issue with using a world map is the new save format, many tools might not be updated in time but I will look. I think I am leaning to a smaller continent or a tight island map seed.

What if we had one island? Right now, Whiterun and Athens are over 1 km away from each other, and I'd like to see some closer connections in the next server. Also, I'd like to see some vertical cities. Skyways, anyone?

I liked the distances, it makes for a realistic feel going from city to city, and even adds a gameplay element or two (i.e., when ogr and I delivered 20 stacks of wool (there wasn't enough space in my inventory to carry all of it in one trip), we could have hired a mob defense party during nightly travel had there been enough people on the server). There was that element of supply and demand and one city saying "I need X amount of resources from Y city. Will it arrive safely, and how will it arrive?". With rails, we could put the items in a chest and send the rail to Whiterun.

What I was thinking about was if we all spawned someplace like a forest and proceeded to build the town right there (with some sort of landmark marking spawn). Granted, that might be a little chaotic.

That's understandable, but for a second, when about 7 new players arrived at once, I thought that your server became public.

This is also a good idea. I'm sure that Ariosos and Skwink can manage this together efficiently. (Skwink just became a mod, right?)

Although I do miss elements from world 5, such as the shop system, this server is indeed getting better and better. :)

Good point. I just want a city with tall buildings to make it feel like, you know, a city.

I can't get on consistently at all. :(

Croxis, do you know of any mods that have popped up for Iron Golems? They could have some exciting uses for war and conflict. (if they make a return) :)

You mean for the party? Where, by the way, will it be held? Spawn? My casino also has plenty of space.
