From Brad Wardell (a.k.a. Frogboy):

The coming 4X Armageddon

By Frogboy on December 16, 2015 7:56:30 PM from Galactic Civilizations III Forums Galactic Civilizations III Forums
Be careful what you wish for.

Next year all the 4X’s are going to come out. What I write below is not under some NDA. I know it because it’s my job to know it.

Let me walk you through the schedule:

1H2016: Stellaris, Master of Orion

2H2016: Civilization VI, Endless Space 2

I could be wrong on the dates. You could swap some of this around a bit but you get the idea.

What does 1H2016/2H2016 mean? I tried googling it but I only got other examples of it. Is it some abbreviation for fiscal quarter or something?

Edit: Woops, wrong thread. Meant to post this in a thread that linked to this one.

I'm guessing 1H and 2H mean 1st Half and 2nd Half of 2016.

Some people were speculating that Civ 6 would be announced at a big convention (PAX East, Gamescon, or whatever they're called) in early 2016 for a Fall 2016 release. They might be right if this Frogboy is correct.

Just to be clear: Frogboy is Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock, creators of Galactic Civilizations. I would take his word for more than cheap speculation.

That would explain the marketing survey for civ they've been pushing.

Shall we begin howling about our pet features that we all want in civ 6? Or is it too early in the thread? ;)

"1upt is awesomeness incarnate."

"1upt ruined my life!"

"You're stupid."

It is time for new CIV - that's for sure.
No more tall ideas. No more OCCs!!

Giant sprawling empires covering continents here I come:)

But seriously knowing my luck it would be: console port+small empires+unhistorical tech tree+one way to win, but hey, you can use pad in combat:)

Edit:
Long live 1upt - I wanted that in 90ties in CIV 1!
Then it came and ruined my life:(

Long live range combat - I wanted that in CIV 1 and 2.
Then it came and ruined my life:(

We need BIGGER MAPS, more hexes (maybe octagos, go octagos)

I only can hope that Civ6's biggest map is bigger than Civ5's "Huge" map.

I wonder if they're going to stick with the stupid rule "1 new thing for 2 old things".

I don't want an expansion pack to get features in. But given Firaxis has gotten away with this for years I'm not expecting that much, I just hope it's got Day 1 Mod and Multiplayer Support as well as something that strays away from a board game to a more Empire Management feel (like in Civ 4)

Just because Brad says 'blah blah blah' doesn't mean it's true.

He's been known to make comments he's regretted before.

I'll believe it when Firaxis or 2K says so.

i just hope civ6 feels like managing an empire

civ5 felt like managing a city state

Yeah, it's not official until it's formally announced, but it's about time too. especially with the survey they made. They defeniately have a alpha by now.

I just hope Firaxis tries somethinf different and doesn't strip the game and release stuff as DLCs.

I wonder if they stick to old engine, or have something new

I suppose they will make a new one. Didn't they do this for all new iterations of civ until now? Especially a new one based on 64-bit improve the gameturns a lot.

I would love to reread the actually Sid quote if anyone can dig it up. But I think it was more like a third familiar, a third new, and get rid of a third.

If they added just one new thing, and took two old things out: (1) the game would be hardly change from version to version, and (2) the game would be getting progressively simpler.

Something else I would appreciate, but have never seen, is tracking showing what got added and removed with each version. It would be a little tricky deciding what counts and how granular to get.

Hoping we get some news in January, wouldn't hurt them to start the hype!

I think Civ V opened doors to a many new fans, Civ VI could be even bigger.

I hope Ed Beach is the main designer, his expansions for V were great, he's the main man.. 8-)

If both Ed and Dennis are (and I have a feeling they are) on Civ 6 then it's got promises, but a lot comes down to the upper management. Fingers crossed its' hype-worthy unlike a certain fourth iteration of a game that came out a while back :mischief:

I am afraid that they will streamline CIV 6 even more than CIV 5:(

I hope they will not go console route:/

^^ I think it is a pretty sure bet that the interface will be compatible with tablets and they will have nominally the same version on iOS, Android, PC, Mac. But being touch-enabled does not mean the game has to be terrible.
