Civilization 2- How long will it live?

I never say it'll be impossible to build scen... I said it looked quite impossible to make new graphics. Have you noticed units were in 3D and have 3 different movements? It will make totally new scen (age of reptiles is a good example) absolutely impossible to make...

Firaxis said scenario designers can use 2D graphics for units. They are also exploring the possibility of a conversion program would make Civ2 scenarios compatible with Civ3.

If Firaxis made utilities for Civ III, it would change the world of Civ immeasurably... for instance, players of Civ II could continue to build scenarios and never worry about losing them when they upgrade to Civ III. For those who, let's say-- haven't the ability to upgrade right away, Civ II would still be alive. For existing scenario authors, they could start converting their scenarios to Civ III right away further encouraging people to upgrade because they can still play their favorite scenario, that now probably has a "little more kick" to it.

It is my opinion that all civ players for the most part (except TTG) will upgrade to civ III if it is as big of a hit as expected (I'm not sure whether "if" even applies anymore). I'm getting Civ III as soon as it comes out.

good news !
We have still to wait and see, but that indicates Firaxis take scenario designers into account

i'm a little curious, how you scenario designers did feel about the ease to develop scenario in Civ2 ?
I mean, how would you rate Microprose effort to support scenario design ?
for example on a 1-5 scale, which could be:
1=best effort: everything well documented,no hidden info,...
3=quite average: need to develop extra utilities, lack of documentation, ...
5=very poor: ...

thank you for your comments and help

It will live for the lifetime of the youngest generation playing it at least.

I post a lot on a BBOARD for ZX Spectrums (1982 48k micros).

AND WE ARE STILL SWAPPING INFO ON PLAYING 20 YEAR OLD ADVENTURE GAMES!

Well,

It is a probable fact that it is still going to grow in popularity if younger kids are playing it now...this is because they will want to multiplay...and they will be online meeting other people and so on...

People seem to stick with what they know as well...until they can upgrade...it's a fact of life these days!

I think I will keep playing civ2 after civ3 is released, just because of the great scenario's I did download. Unless ofcourse there is a way to play the scenario's in civ3.

I do not think civ2 will die. Not for me. I do have TOT, call to power, civ2 and fantastic worlds and I am still playing civ1 occasionally and also colonization.
