Civilization 5

I'd actually completely disagree with that. You like conquest and war, you play an RTS. Civ is all about the entire aspect. I know warfare will always be there (which is good for the holistic experience), but I don't think its what keeps people playing the game.

I totally agree with you, my friends are extremely hostile and war is all that determines the size of their empire and it really sucks for me when we play hotseat because I only declare war again Civs who are asking for it. But, they take me out before I get to 1800 AD.

I know what you mean, it is hard to be peaceful when people don't necessarily respect that, in fact that probably says a lot about human nature, with survival of the fittest and all we've been breed to be agressive as they tend to survive, as they take what they want, however there is a certain amount of compassion required, anyway thats a discussion for somewhere else.

CANALS that is what I've been thinking for ages, I always try and build cities at a narrow bridge of land if it allows me to create a short cut, even though I never really end up taking advantage of it, but think of the strategic importance of the Suez canal! And think about the industrial advantage of the canals across Europe.

In the old Alpha Centauri game, you could actually label regions and landforms on your map (like mountains, hills, plains, lakes, etc.), which I thought was a nice feature that made the game more immersive.

I guess they could add more wonders.

I am not sure I like the way corporations are founded at the minute, with great people, and I would much rather be able to name them myself, founding your own and "designing" it could work, where you make some decisions on what the companies ethics are, I am unsure about the other design decisions.

Yeah and in my opinion the wonders post-Industrial era need to do more hat helps post-industrial era instead of stuff we really could have used pre-Industrial era.
I also think we could use more Civs and leaders in Civilization 5, like add Hitler to the Nazi Empire ( Some people are offended by Hitler being German ) and King Piye to the Nubian Empire. And in my opinion, Stalin should be leader of the Soviet Union. As for new leaders...
Queen Maeve= Celtics
Emperor Constine= Byzntines
Seti I= Eygptian
People like that....

Nazi doesn't have a t thats just how its pronounced. As for the discussion of leaders I believe there is a whole thread on it, dunno if there is one for wonders.

I think that there should be a new feature added...

When you discover a Monarchy and have more than 3 Cities (the number could be set at anything) a famous hero could be born and if the King or Queen so choose, could make then a "Baron" and place them in charge of at least one city and no more than three for a Barony, three to five for a Duchy...

The same concept could be applied for Republics and Democracies...

1 to 2 Cities become a "Territory", with 3 to 5 Cities being a Small State and 5 to 7 cities becoming a large State... the states could then create state governments etc... within the structure of the nation.... instead of the "Baron" it would be a Governor...

Just a thought...

I was thinking about my unions concept again. You could have a level of control that relinquishes sovereignty to the leading civ, I am thinking of a union like Great Britain, where Scotland and Wales retain their national identity but they fall under the control of England. Countries would only agree to it if they either REALLY like you or they're REALLY scared of you. It is similar to vassalage only you can control the country as if it were your own, so you would take the place of the controller (AI) for that countries turn. If the population decides it doesn't like your civ any more and thinks that it is strong enough to break free then they rebel and return to AI control, or they simple ask for their sovereignty back.

That would be great!:) tying into that...
In Civ 5 there should be city states that arise early in-game ,like barbarian citys, they are at war with all Civilizations. But, if we have more culture than they do in their city instead of joining our empire they become sovereign state. Then like us, they could declare war on other city-states and capture othe states in order to grow into full fledged Civs and become our vassals or become independent. Also if there is too much  in a city we control they declare their independence and become city-states.

Ok, new idea, my friend came up with this...

Add a gallows that remove 1:mad: every 10 turns!:goodjob: and it would also add a +1:)

He also came up with...

Increased ship transoprt speed ie, soldigers get on a transport one turn and get off the same turn. And bridge building over small coast squares (like Persians when they attacked Thermopoly!)

Humans aren't the only warmongers in Civ. The AIs are notoriously aggressive, and I've even had Gandhi invade my lands when I hadn't done a thing to his people, at all. But then again, that IS REALISM. That's the way the world truly works, in spite of all the peace-loving hoopla you get from naive philosophers.

I tend to be militaristic and yet defensive at the same time. I take special pride and joy in organizing my strategy toward sapping an enemy's strength and morale as they fight in my borders, slowly bleeding his industrial capacity to death with spies, and essentially getting him ready to make massive war reparations in desperation to end the war, and THEN it becomes a strategic choice for me: do I have the economic capacity to add a bunch of cities at this time? If so, I just go on the offensive and make short work of conquering the evil creep who attacked me. And if not, I accept the war reparations, usually in the form of lots and lots of techs.
