Civilization III v1.16f Available!

Now that I downloaded the golden patch that would fix corrupted files, and I quote right from the readme, "A save corruption problem was fixed.", ALL of my perfect well-working games including autosaves, are corrupted with a DataIO:Unit error. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the patch several times but to no avail. Even the Civ3CopyTool by Gramphos can't help me. So now i'm screwed with another piece of software that doesn't work. I almost threw away my game because of it. I don't understand how they can't fix a major loading error like this and and Gramphos can. (Not that Gramphos is a bad programmer or anything, in fact, he saved my all my saved games when they had a City error :D ) I know i sound like a real crybaby, but will somebody please fix these errors?

At last I can end the dance [dance] of 10,000 little men with shovels!!!!

i'm disappointed that waste and corruption, especially waste, don't seem improved by much in the patch. in fact, i don't believe waste was corrected at all. i can't believe that there would be such extensive corruption in a democratic, industrious society as what you get in Civ 3 especially if you're on a huge map, trying to build a huge civilization. In the real world, democratic societies have little corruption and waste while democratic or autocratic societies have significant waste and corruption problems. this imbalance in the game, IMHO, really takes the fun out of a game that really had some significant improvements in other areas (the use of strategic resources really opened up the gameplay for instance).

it's ridiculous that a city generating 20+ shields should have all but one go to waste. I can understand losing 10-50% but not 90+%......ruins the game for me.

anyone getting different results?

rgds, will

I've downloaded the patch and have now found that the foreign advisor doesn't show the relationship line!
Anyone else have this problem and if so know how to fix it?

Does anybody know how DataIO errors can be fixed? I don't even know how you can get a Unit error. Mine was obviously caused by the patch, since I played a new game where i didn't even kill any units before the patch and then tried to play my old game after the patch and then..... No dice man. Man I'm sick of the problems in this game. I hate to whine but GOD HELP ME!

Thanx Thuderfall for the e-mail letting us know the patch is out!

That was kind of you to do that. :goodjob:

And thanx Firaxis for the continued support of what is the greatest CIV experience to date! :goodjob: :goodjob:

Load errors? Crashed games with function keys? No corruption fix?

Think I will hold off until they patch the patch or I get some confirmation that at least SOME of the major problems have been addressed.

I really can't understand Firaxis, which has to have a great margin on this game and the series. This is not very reassuring to customers, and taking customers for granted is not a way to be in business long term.

Dayum

I've gotten the same error, the DataIO:Unit. This is just great, da? Any advice at all on fixing this, or am I basically just :nuke:

I dowloaded the patch, installed it, and went back to one of my big sprawl games to see if it was working. I am still a democracy, and my far off cities still give all but one shield and one coin away to their mafia pals. This is fixed corruption? Anybody notice if any of this junk works?

(Apologies if already posted elsewhere)

This just in @ Apolyton.net ...
Jeffrey Morris says don't install the patch on Win2k/XP machines.

Personally, I'm on Win2k and the patch installed fine.
However, there already appears to be a tonne of issues with it.
Suprise, suprise.

So, then, that's it for me. Civ3 is getting shelved for good.

I heard the lowered corruption will only show in new games...

ps dosunuk- you read the info on the patch, right? It says that your foreign advisor will only show relationships between two civs that you know about. is this the problem?

it could that I have just added on too many Mods etc, but only since installing this new patch does the game crash consistently. I press F11 key on my keyboard then start going left I scroll through the various stats, before I get to F1 the game crashes.

Anyone else have this problem?

Reportedly the corruption fix will only work in new games. I have yet to get a Civilization built up enough yet tonight to verify this. Maybe by about 3 am....

Everything looked okay, but Civ3 has crashed twice since I patched and had never crashed before . . . once when giving a ship a long auto-move and once on exiting the game. Rreally hoping the game is still playable, but beginning to doubt . . ..

Maybe time to start over. I'd advise anyone with a saved game they want to finish to wait on downloading the patch.

I have learned a lesson from all this, and that is to dive in prematurely. I just ASSUMED this patch would fix most of the problems with Civ3, I NEVER thought it would create new ones. Next time I will wait, when buying a game or evening downloading its patches.. but come on, who would think that a Patch would need a patch? :)

Having read this thread, I've downloaded but am not going to install just yet. Sounds like the patch might need patching? I don't much feel like being a beta player for the patch.

The relationship lines dissapear when you switch out of your foriegn advisor screen and into another. (f4, f3, f4 would make them dissapear)

The only screen that doesn't seem to break it is the domestic advisor.

So far it seems the only way to get them back is to exit the game and reload your save. The problem isn't just isolated to previously saved games either, same problem with new ones. :(
