Civilization III v1.16f Available!

Those that are experiencing crashing and problems with the patch should include as much information as they can about what/if anything you added or changed to the original install of Civ3. Any mods, changes you made in editor etc. I have loaded all my games and ran through all the F keys and have not suffered any crashes at all. I have the Elvis mod and the all civs get expansionist added to my original install.

:shotgun:

I made no mods at all to the game that crashed -- this was my first long-term game that I've been playing at for an hour or two a day over the past week.

I made No Changes at all. I cant even start the game. It Just Crashes. I applied the Patch and now it Just crashes.I am gonna have to reinstall and try again. It Played fine Before the patch. I will update you soon as I uninstall and reinstall. I have been playing Pc games a long long time, I told you guys that this may happen. Man, the Patch seems buggier than what it fixed.

T-Bird 850

Creative SB Live X-Gamer
Visontek Geforce 2 Gts
Winxp Pro

If you are using XP operating system, then the following keys will cause your game to crash, if there are more probs I am not aware of yet, but for now these ones I am certain about:

F7 and F11 keys cause the game to crash, all other keys seem to be working fine.

**UPDATE**

I uninstalled all Civ 3.Reininstalled. The game started fine. Applied the patch. Try to play. It just doesnt start. Click the Icon,Little Hourglass appears, the the HD acesses then Just stops. No error message nothg. Just Like it didnt do anything. It doesnt even lock up. Just goes back to like I never clicked the startgame.PLEASE FIX MY GAME!

i've loaded the patch on my brand new winXP machine and have had no troubles at all. no data errors and am continuing a previously saved game with no crashes. i was wondering if corruption/waste might be handled better in a newly started game under the patch....so probably should wait judgement. i'll let you know once i get one started...but the wife and kids say i need to help decorate the tree......so.......better score some brownie points that will keep me at the game longer later, LOL rgds, will

Ok 3 times now. Third time with the new version of the patch. Same results every time. Before the patch I can play. After the patch it just flat out will not start. If I uninstall the patch I still cant start. It just screws my game. Lets see some official response and advise here.

I cant even Uninstall it now it tell sme it cant access a "Locked File" I am assumeing this is due to the game starting up, but not.

.... or whatever the error is.

Any mods? Thats one of the erros I'd get when trying to load a game after makeing a change to the .bic the game didn't like.
Unfortuantly, I don't remember exactly what caused the error... maybe not renameing art files/directories after renaming units?

If so, thats odd, because I found that the patch _didn't_ alter at least 3 of my modded files: civ3mod.bic, the 'pedia.txt file, and the pediaicons.txt file. (I know that the first two files were supposed to be changed.)

Didnt Know that when I bought this game I was paying them to beta test it.
Ok. Here is my final results after Uninstalling/Reinstalling about 5 different times, with the apropriate reboots inbetween as well. Still nothing, Original patch,or the new one. It plays as long as I dont apply the patch. When the patch is applied, its just thinks a second the does nothing. I went in this last Uninstall, and deleted the whole Directory, so that it would be completly fresh.
Same deal. Uninstall,Reboot,Install,Reboot,Play,Reboot, Install Patch,Reboot,Cant play. 5-6 tries now. Oh well I guess this game gets Put on a shelf to collect dust Untill they can get it right or Another game I wants I can take it back for. Buggy before, now its even worse. I think this shows that they do about 0 testing before they release. Its insane for a patch to be worse than what it is trying to fix. Thank God I have RTCW, and Just Bring it for my Ps2.Well Guys I hope you enjoy the new patch, the ones that it works for. I can only wish.....

BTW... I deleted and Redownloaded the pacth to ensure I wasnt getting a corrupted version....

Ok, this is very frustrating. I'm not very computer literate - - will someone please explain, very simply, how to download and install a patch? This selling of a game with defects, then putting out a patch, as if that is an acceptable sales practice, is just not right. If I buy a defective product, it is up to the manufacturer to fix it. It is not up to me to figure out how to fix it. I should be able to exchange my disk for a new disk that is free of bugs.
Anyway, that's another issue. I'd appreciate it if someone would explain where I download this patch to. Do I stick it in one of the Civ3 subfolders? If so, which one? When it says download, save to disk, what exactly to I tell it to do? This assumption that I know what I'm doing is very frustrating.

Follow the link from the General Disscussion board. Its an exe all you have to do it click it and it just installs, easy.....

You poor souls, my heart goes out to you. Since I will only be getting the game during christmas break I can not say that I have suffered the creulty of this patch. But, having expirienced the horors of *really* buggy games I know what your going through. Pool of Radiance anyone?

Yep, happened to me also.
I would be the last to complain, cause there are a lot of people around, who are Firaxis quite thankful for it, but one Question remains.
Was it the work of the original Translation-Crew or have they at last come to an agreement with the german Translation-Project (that, which was sued by Infogrames)

Maybe Dan or Jeffrey are able to answer this (if they can and are allowed to)

[Just curious]
