I think firaxis should seriously consider this considering how painful it is to patch their game to suit all the computer platforms.

It would be interesting. And I COULD see it being pulled off. But I don't really see the point.

Also, "considering how painful it is to patch their game to suit all the computer platforms."

You: *Game has bug in it, Firaxis doesn't have online support for Civ IV 360 or Civ IV PS3*

You: NOOOO!!!!11

I believe XBox 360 and PS3 allows for Internet access. In which case, bugs are not a problem. Patch can be sent to the console.

But I just don't like playing civ4 with a game controller instead of a mouse/kerboard. I like using hot keys.

Civ is not Doom or Madden Football. Those platforms cannot support a game that requires more than zapping some cheat codes and rescuing the princess.

These consoles have usb ports. It shouldn't be all of that big of a leap to add keyboard and mouse interfaces into the software to support these relatively simple, very well established devices, via usb. Also, I think you would find bugs to be very much less of an issue with console-developed games. Without the compatibility problems (which I believe encompasses the memory leaks), Civ IV runs smoothly on atleast 99% of the PC systems meeting the recommended specs imo. If it only has to target this one system, and the game has already gone through the ropes of a PC release, I think it would run perfectly on any console. I also think that with their networking capabilities, modding is still very much an option. As long I can network to the console with my PC, no problem.

If any Civ game comes to the console, I want it to come out on the DS, not Civ 4, but a remake of Civ 3 or something.

The DS would be prefect for the differnt menus and stuff.

another prob however, is that the resolution of TV screens is really, really bad.

There are ALOT of fiddly little buttons and stuff in Civ, and the graphics just can be appreciated on a TV screen.

Also you would probably want to be sitting up close to play civ 4, rather than on a sofa a few feet away...

It would be great for the DS though...

Not if I have a 6 ft x 5 ft HDTV wall screen to play it on! (Which I don't)

CIV 2 came out on PS1 and it played well with the controler. I always hoped later civs would be consuled too.

I think that a Civ 4 port to the new consoles could be done, but I wonder if there's enough of a market to make it worthwhile. The consoles have traditionally not been big markets for strategy games.

I still plan on getting Pirates! for my Xbox even though I play it on my PC. I just like the option. So I would definately get CIV for a console game. The interface can be done on a console, people thought FPS's couldn't be done well with a controller till Halo came along.

I think the Revolution controller is the most interesting, I could see it being used really effectively for TBS or RTS games.

Strategy games are known to be .. well .. just bad .. on consoles. If the new consoles had USB mice and keyboards it could work.

Graphically Civ4 might stress the current gen enough that it would be hard to make, but I know civ4 uses the same graphics engine as pirates and it worked out very well for xbox. In anycase you have to consider that the current gen already is dead.

For Next gen Civ4 will just make the console look like crap, I mean graphically it will be well below other games and you would need HDTV to play civ4 with a decent amount of detail. Plus the mouse and KB thing will be a pain, but the upside is that if it was made for xbox360 the multiplayer would be awsome since it would use xboxlive.

I would perfer to see Civ2/3 for windows mobile instead.
