Civilization & System Hang

EDIT: Actually, I forgot looking for foreign characters, where exactly am I supposed to look? The game's launch path?

The problem with the charactes is related to your windows user name, but you'd get problems while loading saves, not ingame.

mmhh...does the problem happen again when you reload the savegame prior to the crash/hang?

Could I take a look at your DXDIAG? Your rig is probably fine, I just want to see the combination you're running.

Well, I can definitely confirm that this does not work.I'll go into some more details about how my bug manifests itself though:

So I boot up Civ as usual, and start a game. There are no signs of anything being wrong. The game runs smooth, and my computer seems completely okay with it. Then, without forewarning, everything fails. This is at about 60 turns ingame. It starts with the screen going black, and ultimately loosing input all together. The first time I had this bug, the USB ports on my computer even failed.

Anyways, nothing works when the game has crashed. Not CTRL-ALT-DELETE, mouse movements or any other commands. I can't even use the reboot button on my computer, I have to turn it all the way off, and then on again.

This problem came with G & K, and I've never seen anything like it before.

I can upload my dxdiag if you think that will help, but I'm absolutely sure that there's nothing wrong with my computer. Newest drivers and good hardware.

Yeah, I derped, my username is Mats, so I shouldn't have any problems there :)

As far as loading games go, it's exactly the same. All work fine (saving and loading included) until everything goes kersplosh. I'm not sure if it takes about 60 turns every time, but that's the impression I'm under.

Yeah, here you are :)

Finally, I've also tried launching in dx9 mode, since some people round the internetz have been telling me that might work. Well, that doesn't even launch. Don't know if there is any correlation between the problems though. Whenever I click "Launch in DX9" mode, the dialogue box disappears for a second or two, just to pop back up. This happens again and again whenever I try the DX9 option.

I do not think that it is the same file. I think that you have a lot of corrupted files. Have you tried to delete local content and download the game again?

I already did it 3 times in the last couple of months, but I guess I should try again

You should try if this might help.

Else: Doesn't seem to be a hardware problem :dunno: (but I'm not a pro in that area).

Oh cool! I'll stick around a bit longer to see if there's a fix for the DX11 version though, hopefully it will never come to having to play on DX9

Well, that's good to hear, and thanks for taking a look at it :)

Deleted the local content again, downloaded the game again, reinstalled it. Verified the cache just after the installation, without even launching the game : still a 5.0 MB had to be downloaded :(

By the way after reinstalling it I tried to play. I managed to play for more than a hour without any problem, then I closed the game and my pc hanged 10 seconds later...

I've been having similar problems to OP, only I can't get as far into a game before it freezes. Sometimes it will freeze when I am selecting a leader to set up a game, sometimes when I'm playing the game (usually within a dozen turns), and almost always when I save a game. I have an i5 with 4 gb ram, and I'm running a small map at the lowest graphic settings.

I just want to let you know you are not alone, I have a similar problem. The gamme starts ok, but after awhile the graphics start getting choppy and then I get serious lag between commands, and finally the game becomes almost completely unresponsive. At that point I save the game if I can, and then restart. This problem gets worse as the game goes on. I can usually play 20 to 30 turns at the start of a game....by turn 300 I get less than 10 turns before it starts acting up.

I have tried to disabling the core threading in the config file, that didn't help.

I have a I7 processor, 8gb of ram, and an Nvidia GT 425m graphics card.

I hope someone can figure this out. I really enjoy G&K so far, and I would be ecstatic if I could play without the lag.
