I'd like to propose the new iteration of Civ game be consisting only of Ancient/Classical Era Civs, Leaders, Uniques, Technologies, etc...
The game would start in 6000 BC(Neolithic) and ending at 499 BC-or so.
Equal number of turns as in CIV V, however, imagine the changes!
Many tribes and leaders, such as America, or Russia(for example) would not appear in the game, replaced, among others, with Akkadia and Etruscans.
The game change would be rapid and interesting, and, above all, all the players would eagerly await the upcoming CIV VII-Medieval, with different set of techs, policies, civs and leaders, uu's and ub's, wonders and all that jazz in between.
I really think this is the way to go for the franchise.

I think people would have a problem if 6 was just ancient era and there was a whole new game (at full price) for medieval (7). Even having medieval as an expansion could be viewed as money grubbing unless the individual parts were fully fleshed out and really good.

I think the eras should be more fleshed out, but not separate games upon themselves.

Would mean a much deeper game, era by era.

Imagine all the (new) added: Civilizations, Leaders, Units, Buildings, Techs, Uniques, etc...
Of course some nations would not be able to appear in such a game, like: America, Brazil, Sweden or Austria (among others). However, there are so many ancient era ones missing from CIV: Armenia ( ancient Armenia under Tigranes), Sumeria, Hatti, Akkadia, (ancient) Israel, Canaan, or Nubia (among others).

Currently, you are limited to expansion and barbarian fighting during the ancient era. It flies by quickly, and before you know it the turn date changes from BC(with the year) to AD.
However, history teaches us the ancient(and classical) era, besides having to deal with barbarians and the obvious need to settle and expand a nation faced wars and constant competition (cultural , military, economic and scientific) from other civilizations. So many nations/civilizations were already established, and well prospering nations in the ancient era. Civilizations arose, crumbled, broke into smaller tribes, got conquered by barbarians-who in turn created a new civilization in place of the one they conquered, great people appeared, wars brought new technologies with them, famine and plague struck in spots-for a time, lands/islands were discovered and settled.

In CIV advancement into gunpowder and industrial era's take place too quick, this robs human players from truly appreciating all the: differences in city/building styles of each cultural group, technologies bringing different bonuses to one nation-while different to another (upon discovery of same technology), so many additional advances/discoveries, buildings and improvements, militaristic and cultural developments which were needed in order to advance into later Eras.
In CIVI Ancient differences between (barbarian) and civilized tribes/nations could be further developed, allowing diplomacy, trade and alliances with those considered barbarians, due to the fact they are nomadic, or village and non city dwellers. Such tribes should all have a chance to change into city builders as well, especially through contact with civilized tribes (cultural influence).

Also, winning an Ancient/Classical era CIVVI at the hardest difficulty could give you a bonus discount on the price (like 30% off) of CIV VII Medieval-well, that's just my idea.

Need to make another quick point here, before I get banned, or something, hehehe.

Just imagine!

CI VI, The Ancients.

Start in 6000 BC, research such primitive techs as Hunting, Roads, The Wheel, Animal Domestication, Farming, Mining, etc.

About 150 turns of Ancient/Classical action only, with Ancient and Classic Era's Civilizations/Nations/Tribes involved only. Each Civ/Tribe part of a greater Cultural Group, according to which it's Generic Buildings and Units would take appearance, different from other Cultural Groups. Great many new Civilizations, Leaders, Units, Wonders, Buildings, Techs, etc.

Of course, some nations, and many techs, wonders, units, buildings of (from) CIV would be unavailable in such a game, but the game would be deeper, make you understand/enjoy particular Era more.

And all of those who would play CIVI THE ANCIENTS would no doubt wait with baited breath for the upcoming CI VII Medieval, where they could assume the roles of Great Leaders leading nation such as the Normans, Franks, Tibet, Aztecs, (Briton) Celts, and others, to a great glory.

A year(or two) later, CI VIII Renaissance comes out. Within it, Age of Discovery, America(US) as one of playable nations. Later industrial and finally Modern (CIX) would follow. All games with great many generic and unique units and building (and abilities), so many new Leaders and Civilizations!

Appreciate the concept please, such a design would bring in the most in-depth play, the most civilizations (so many of which cannot and will not be ever added to the game as is), Leaders, units. Stuff which not only gives us, players, enjoyment, it causes us to learn and remember otherwise unknown/obscured (by general public) elements of history, which, in itself, ain't a bad, thing.

Now I made my case, rest I leave to you, academiacs.
