Thanks ControlFreak, I thought it would be so.

Another question: Because the "new" Civilopedia has those entries for the new units, will those entries just be disregarded with a non-GOTM game, or will it crash?

Not sure what your real question is here. Remember that if you have a question related to a currently open GOTM game you should email of PM me initially to avoid any risk of spoiling the game for other players.

In general, added entries that are in the Civilopedia.txt file will not cause game crashes.

There are no modifications to the Civilopedia.txt file in any GOTM games.

The other file that could be effected is the PediaIcons.txt file but that is a different subject that the Civilopedia because the pediaicons file has become sort of a catch-all for image and graphics kluges that have been implemented into the Firaxis software in ways that may not be 100% consistent from game version to game version.

These issues are one of the major incompatibility issues that have been dropped onto the Civ3 community by some of the implementation choices as the different versions of the game have evolved. It unfortuantely adds another level of complexity to game play issues that could have been avoided by a more thoughtful implementation.

If this is a speculation question, please be courteous to others and give us some priority time here to address actual game play issues. We will deal with any what-ifs later in the process.

Hey, this became a thread! ;)

Anyway, I was referring to the PediaIcons. I know that in GOTM 17 there are added entries in there in the Units section. I was wondering if these entires would have any adverse effects on a game that didn't have these entries.

I remember reading something vague about this in the ReadMe, but I can't find it now...

PediaIcons.txt is a different issue than the Civilopedia. Yes, the names are confusing, I apologize, I did not choose them.

The main thin you will need to watch for in issues related to PediaIcons.txt is to make sure you understand what version of the software you are playing. The PediaIcons.txt file is different for Civ3v1.29 and for the PTW versions.

Using an incremented PediaIcons.txt file will not cause your game to crash of the you can say that everything in the original or base PediaIcons.txt file is included as a subset of the new file. In other words, if you only add things then no crashes occur because these added things just become unused references.

Unfortunately the way this got implemented to PTW it is 10x more complicated than it should be and there are examples in the game where it was implemented "properly". Properly just being a different way chosen by Firaxis that does not require several external and undocumented changes.

Thanks cracker. So this means I don't have to uninstall any units, graphics, or PediaIcons when I play a regular game? Good. I was afraid that I would have to end up constantly unintalling/reinstalling.
