Classic GOTM 32 Speculation Thread

The normal release time is 12 midnight mountain time. For you gentlemen on the eastern seaboard, that's about the time Gengis Khan is yelling "Last call, what do you mean last call, I'm not drunk yet"

Hope this helps!

Yep, I didn't think about the fact that we probably won't have that much land to work with. So I'll go for the 20K, in my second city instead of my capitol so as I can prebuild wonders. Hopefully there's a spot with some sheild production besides the starting point.

it's 15th afternoon now in China, i am still waiting

In that case I'm going to bed and dream of little Jaguar Warriors running amuck :hammer: :ninja: :bounce:

Sorry, i dont understand this humour, who is Gengis Khan? forgive my ignorance

ShaoKai,

Surprising, you've not run into the fella - he was certainly out and about in your part of the world. Anyway, he gets a fair write-up in PTW under Tribes/Mongols.

Extremely expansionist and militaristic, chances are he enjoyed a drink and I'm almost certain he would have been be a bit of a rascal at kicking out time.

Gunner.

Or perhaps denyd was referring to one of our forum members. ;)

Methinks Ainwood is right... note the spelling "Gengis" as opposed to "Genghis".

Otherwise known as: "He who hosts the most posted-to thread in the SG forum"

....or to those of us who know and love him, "he who is fond of post-final benders and Mongolian Virgins...when he's up in 4 SGs..."

finally i can play the game of the month.. i have been one of the players who was put off by all those patches and files previously... the only patch i have is 1.27 and now it's enough to play gotm!!! :)

As usual I'd sure like a food bonus! And moving the settler seems desirable to gain a BG. I'm going to start by moving settler south to scout as many additional tiles as possible. If that reveals nothing the worker will mine the start tile and I'll settle on the south tile.

I'm going to try this as an AW (always war) game. That should be interesting with the Aztecs - their UU should be useful for this early on but will trigger a GA much earlier than I'd prefer. I don't know whether it is possible but, assuming I survive the opening, I'm going to try for a diplomatic victory :) I'll modify the AW rules to allow one turn of peace at the end if it seems possible to go for diplomatic.

Well let's see... about half the civ community just decided to move the settler south... :D (apologies to SirPleb)

Interesting start... the way founding a city on the start position would leave Tenochtitlan surrounded by water, just as it actually was... would the causeways leading to it be two lances wide? :p

History beckons to drop the settler right there, giving commerce bonuses on all nine inner tiles... (nice!) But then there are movement penalties in every direction until engineering...not so nice. At first glance I think I'll move the settler SE, to keep all 3 regular grass tiles after the border expansion. Not as bold as scouting with the settler... but I think that's what I'll do.

Hopefully we'll get a suitable worker pump site. I'd really like to have the jungle cleared before the space race begins; wet world + non-industrious = hacking at jungle from now until endgame...

It seems Scoutsout and I are both going the same way with a Settler SE and mine/road with worker

I'm currently in brain negotiations over shooting for 20K, 100K or adding to the continuing saga of Mursilas' return to the stars, now known to his people as Montezuma. Since SirPleib is going for either conquest/domination or diplomacy, I going to avoid those conditions and with the new pattern of Game of the Two Weeks in place, I've ruled out miking to histograph.

I'll probably checkout the amount of available land. Lots of dirt would lead to a 100K or Space Race, while a smallish land mass would dictate a 20K choice.

My current dilemma is whether to use the Jaguars to kick off a golden age or try to avoid war until either horses or swords are available. As of now, it's the latter choice. The problem with waiting is if the resources aren't there, the window for Jaguar usage is closed.

As for research, if a food source is nearby and few expanionist AI in the game, then pottery at max otherwise Alphabet->Writing at minimum.
