Classic GOTM 39 problem. arabs.flc

Are you playing with plain Civilization III? If so, do you have the correct add-ons/mods which I think it requires?

Also, this thread will be moved to the GOTM forum by a mod because they can help you better there.

I'm new the the GOTM and am not sure which add ons it requires. I have just reinstalled it (I have Civ3 gold which includes, PTW and conquests) and I assume it is of the latest version. I'm now guessing I have to download something for it. A point in the right direction, or better yet a link to the download would be helpful

I have tried the saved game with all the executable files conquests, which refuses to load it, Original and PTW which have to above problem.

Cheers

I was under the impression that Civ 3 gold included only the original game and PTW. But I could be wrong, so I'll assume you have all three versions of the game available to play. Here's a few things that might help.

First, C/GOTM is actually two competitions. COTM (current game: COTM 9 -- Scandinavia) can be played only with Conquests. GOTM (current game: GOTM 39 -- Germany) can be played only with PTW or original Civ. Make sure you're trying to open the save file using a valid software.

Second, make sure you're patched up to the correct version of whichever software you're going to use. Original Civ is at 1.29f, PTW at 1.27f and Conquests at 1.22. If you're not sure which version you're running, check the bottom left corner of the game's opening menu screen; it should be there (unless the game is completely unpatched, in which case I think there's nothing).

Third, if you're intending to play GOTM 39, it's simpler to play in PTW, which requires no downloads. You should just be able to open the game and start playing. If you'd prefer to play "original civ" (the game has been modded to make it more like PTW), there is an all-in-one installer in the first post here that you'll need to download and run before playing. If you don't install those files, you can get some error messages, although I don't think the one you mentioned is one of them. Could be wrong, though.

Fourth, if you're intending to play COTM 9, there is one small download that is requested but not required of players; you can find it in the first post of the "saves released" thread for the game. It restores movement to the barbarian units, which are otherwise rather useless in Conquests.

Hope that helps; please ask if you have any more questions.

If you tried to play the 'vanilla' start file in an unmodded copy of Civ3 1.29f, I think an eqWorker error would hit you before the message you are getting could occur. Your best bet is to use the PtW save file for GOTM 39 and make sure you play it in PtW version 1.27f. No mods are required then.

Check again that you have Conquests, as I thought the only product with all three options was Civ3 Complete.

I've just tried GOTM39 with PTW version 1.27f and still get the same error. I'm going to download that mod from the link and see if it works.

If I download the mod what will the consequences be for LAN play against people who don't have the mod? Will they be compatable?

Cheers

You can only play multi-player with PtW, and there's no way you should install the GOTM mods into PtW. That is a downhill road to total meltdown and re-installation of your Civ3. I recommend you don't just make random irrelevant changes.

I've checked. The only start file that requires a file called arabs.flc is the vanilla start file. So throw that start file away, get the PtW start file, and run it in PtW. No mods.

There's no technical problem playing Gotm 39 with C3C.

I only realized my mistake trying to submit... :wallbash: :aargh: :gripe:

That's correct. We've tried to think of ways to make the Classic start files fail if you try to play them in C3C, but it's not easy. I'm afraid it all comes down to due diligence on the part of the players.
