We've got some really tight races for some of our positions, and lots of votes tallying up already. This is great! It's wonderful having all the new players. Welcome to all of you, and best of luck to all the candidates :goodjob:

This is my first demo game experience and not knowing any of the fine candidates that came forth to lead our new effort of survival i had to relay on past archives, (somehow they survived although our knowledge didnt mmm. ), carisma (that baby kissing thing was unvaluable ;) ), and the ocasional and trusty flip of the coin whence it cam to casting my vote..
I look forth to the first round of play...

Huitzi just your everyday citizen hoping to make it to governor some day..

Huitzilopochtli reminds me of a scenario in Age of Empires II.... is it a city or suburb name name?

On topic, the elections are a bit puzzling abou one thing.... they do not all total the same, e.g., some have 20 total votes, and some have 21. No one else is here right now, so it would seem that everyone is not casting a vote in each category ... Oh well, it's a democracy & people can vote, or not, LOL.............

Some people don't vote if they cannot decide between the two candidates and sometimes people don't have enough time to vote on every poll.

Welcome by, and in the mean time (before your governorship), please get involved in all of the discussions.

You can check out the Campaign Thread as well to see what some of the candidates are saying.

And don't be surprised if the "baby kissing" picture is actually NOT of that brilliant marketer, duke. I have a feeling he may have hired and extremely handsome man and beautiful baby girl to pose for this election photo op.

But it's too late for you to change your votes! :nya:

The elections do seem to be close - or at least they do apart from the Presidential one, where Dell has quite a lead. It could all still change though if Duke wants to go canvassing in the GotM thread or somewhere else. ;) The polls will close tomorrow morning (9ish GMT) here in Britain so cast those votes if you have not already done so!

It's never too late. ;) If anyone does want to change their vote, they can post so in the Needed Stuff thread or PM me.

Well, I would hope so. ;)

Surely in real life you cannot change your vote once you have decided? So it shouldn't really happen in our elections.

Well maybe Duke is more sympathetic towards the suckers who were taken in by my devious electioneering and appropriation of Kev's lovely daughter (or her image). :satan:

Congratulations President Dell! Can we start to bicker about the worth of building a road against building a new city straightaway now then? :D
Game on!

Yes, but in real life the candidates views are known well ahead of time. Our game is not quite so structured, so people may find information out about a candidate after they have voted simply because it wasn't posted prior to that. Also, our elections run several days, where the real world is done all on one day.

We can try to mimick real world situations, but we need to be a bit more flexable in 'our world'. :)

Okay, but I would still expect people to have made their best choice in the first place. Allowing people to change votes could get messy.

Is there any way of determing what vote was actually cast by a given User ID (e.g, something that the mods can examine)? If not, then a person could doublevote by:

1. Casting a vote for option A.
2. Asking to change the 'vote' from B to A.

However, the good news is that if eveyone that casts their vote does step 1 & 2, the result will be statistical nullification, e.g., no net change in result.

;)

PS, I spotted at least one Hanging Chad, and would like to interpret what the voter was really thinking.

(for those that don't know about the infamous 'Hanging Chads' et. al., it's from the close vote counting in Florida during the 2000 Presidential election! Vote counters learned to "read" the minds of voters by finding out how Mr. Chad was hung)
