Colonialist Legacies: Histories of the New World | Colonial + Pre-Colonial civs

That's not a bad idea at all, but I might be hard pressed to find someone to code it.

I can code the Lua side of it later this week once my finals are over. It's gonna be a bit more involved and need more testing than the Boer code.

I'm not sure the other civ should receive a culture building since the resistance and a cargo ship is a nice counter.

Well, my idea assumed that it wasn't going to be in tandem with the suggestion you made earlier. In that case, then yeah, the cargo ship should be a good enough bonus for the other player.

I was looking into some alternate possibilities for Boer music.

Traditional Boer music was, well... a little folksy. A lot of accordion.

This is pretty representative I think. This same youtube channel has a lot of stuff like this. None of it is super orchestrated, but you could probably make a decent peace theme from something.

For the war thing, there is an interesting possibility. I'll quote from a website I was reading about it:
"During the set-piece battle stage of the Boer War (1899-1902), the Boers always gathered for a short sermon before entering into battle. They prayed and sang psalms. Such a gathering was always concluded by the loud and inspirational singing of the Boer Battle Song (Boerenkrijgslied)."
The song itself is just the older Dutch song "'Merck toch hoe sterck'', which you can find some organ versions of on youtube:

You would probably have to find a cooler version than that, but I think the song would be an appropriate choice.

This may be quite more boring than what has been suggested before, but what if when you have the declaration of Friendship and Open borders you share the benefits from luxury resources (maybe strategic resources too).

Would that be all that different from the Netherlands?

You aren't trading them away, you are just sharing, dunno if that can be coded though.

While I'm here, may I join the Vietnam conversation on Steam?

I'm waiting on a couple of icons from TPangolin, trying to figure out what we're gonna do for the peace/war themes, and then a quick bout of play testing should finish it up. I'd estimate within the week at the latest, a day or two at the soonest.

Just found a bug after instsall VietNam civ:

- When you play another civ, amphitheater bonus culture is lost.

- In my game i picked VietNam as enermy team

See attachment for more details.

Are you sure you aren't playing as the Philippines?

Because that's a bug related to the Philippines and not to Vietnam.

Also "Merck toch hoe sterck" sounds a lot like the melody to Field of Poppies:

Compare:

Here is an interesting peace theme by the way:

Might be a bit too lively though.

Well, "Merck Toch Hoe Sterck" seems to be based upon "What if a day, a month, or a year", which is an old Elizabethan melody. So with the Boer battle song, that gives us 3 different search terms for the same potential war theme. So far, I've had little success.

Though that Boeremusiek seems pretty nice.

Also, keep in mind we're currently using this as a peace theme:

The only real reason I'm open to a different theme is that this is a bit too British. It's very lovely, and the only fitting instrumental version of Sarie Marais I could find, but it's not as Boer-y as it could be.

Commandos look fabulous. Are you using hidden farm replacement to differentiate between Boer-built farms and farms built by conquered native populations?

.......That's actually an amazing idea. How would we differentiate them however? Different colours? Add some tiny tiny sheep?

Or a flag maybe? Little walls?
