Haven't played single player in a long time but I don't think this happens when playing alone. Anyhow, when you're in a multiplayer game and the AI attacks you, it's sooo annoying that it's so hard to tell where you're getting attacked because there is no combat zoom in multiplayer. Without it, all you get is a text message saying that you were attacked and won or lost. This is really annoying and I see no reason why you can't have this function even as an option. Personally I enjoy watching battles, but in multiplayer I can barely find out where battles are happening when I'm attacked. Thumbs down for this. :(

I couldn't agree more; this is a major annoyance. Does anyone know if there's an option or setting that can be changed?

there are pings on the map that show where the battles occured
after looking at the hp of units around there (or in multiple locations) you can almost always figure out what happened
takes about 2 or 3 seconds

with a turn timer, how exactly do you see a combat zoom working? your turn would be over by the time you finish watching all the battles... it would also take away from your ability to fast-move, which can be crucial sometimes

they could of course they come up with some sort of animation that's in-between quick defense (instant) and normal - so you have a split second to assess what happens... smth like a fast-forwarded normal animation (they had smth of the sort in civ III, where the hp would just drop much faster). That's what the "quick" setting is supposed to do in the first place, in my opinion at least. Right now it's just ********.

either way, you would still lose the ability to fast-move
and in simultaneous turns, it's essential
took a capital defended by a wounded archer yesterday with my last chariot before the guy's friend managed to move another archer in to save him
well serves them right
stupid prearranged teams in an FFA
