I love it when these things come out every summer, not because I finally know that It's a Wonderful Life is more inspiring than To Kill a Mockingbird, but because they always introduce me to at least one classic film I'd never heard of before.

Often, these heretofore-unknown-to-me movies are well worth watching, and they're pretty much always better than what I would've ordinarily watched on the night I rent them. This year, for example, I'd never heard of Breaking Away, and after reading a little about it I'm now anxiously anticipating its arrival from Blockbuster Online.

So does anyone else actually anticipate these little specials every summer?

Gandhi was pretty good too. I didn't find Saving Private Ryan particularly inspiring though.

I always enjoy AFI's lists. In fact I enjoy AFI. Membership in AFI includes a subscription to an excellent film magazine.

While you can perhaps debate the inspirational qualities of the movies selected, the fact is that on any level they are all superb movies.
