Yes you have read correctly folks! Very soon there will be a new civ to add to your great collection, it has been described as a latin island in a slavic sea. Yes you guessed correctly I am currently working on an early version of a Romanian civ for all you Romanian civfanatics out there!:D And whats the cost to you I hear you ask?? Well nothing ofcourse  :crazyeye: lol all kidding aside I am working on a Romanian civ, dont get to excited as I am in the early stages of planning and I dont plan on having it realeased for a while yet! The reason why I am posting this to to get idea from the community as to what the UU's should be and the leaders. Do not worry about posting city lists as I have a definate list already of cities that currently reside in Romanian borders.

Any ideas and suggestions about anything else are more than welcome, While I am not Romanian nor have I ever been I find the country facinating and have many friends there and be sure they will have something to say about how this civ turns out too :p

Anyway get thinking everyone and let me know any ideas that you have!!!!:crazyeye:

I'm pretty sure us Romanians never called ourselves "Rumanians".

As for civ specifics... I don't exactly know what I could suggest. Ask and I'll try to find an answer. What would you need to know?

Leaders... hm... I think Stephen the Great (Ro: Ştefan cel Mare) is a must; he was the most important medieval ruler of Moldavia. If you want to make a Romanian Kingdom civ, then you'll probably want to use either King Carol I or King Ferdinand I, in my opinion.

That's all I can think of for now.:)

thanks evanb!! I have the civ pretty much done for the moment and am working on civilopedia entries and waiting on some minor 3d modeling to be done with the UU. As it stands now I am worknig on the theory of creating a modern Romania as it has stood for the 150 odd years since the unification of Wallachia and Moldovia in 1850.

For leaders I have soooo many great ones to choose from and many of my Romanian friends have had a great deal of input in this civ!:D My final choice for a leader was Alexandru Cuza who united the modern Romania as we know it.

At this point I am still open to suggestions for other leaders but I think one is enough for now, if I want to be releasing this civ in the next 2 weeks!;)

Ohhh that reminds me, what would be the best form title for a modern Romania, as there is no royal family any more that my reaserch has found, so I think kingdom would not be a good title. Republic of Romania perhaps??

A couple of teaser images just to tide you over untill Im done ;)

The unit attacking the Redcoat here is the UU for this civ, the Vanatori de Munte or Mountain Hunters.

Hmm... Cuza? He was more like the right person at the right place and at the right time. One basic premise of the union was always the bringing of a foreign prince to the throne, to settle the complaints that might arise if a king was chosen from Moldavia or Wallachia.

The Convention of Paris specified that each Principality would chose its own ruler; it didn't mention however that they had to be different persons. That's how Cuza was elected both in Moldavia and Wallachia, and thus the union was made.

Nevertheless, he initiated important reforms in Romania, and although towards the end of his rule he began having slight absolutist tendencies, he abdicated when asked, being succeeded by Carol I.

I think Ferdinand I would be more appropriate: he was king during the Great Union, which is more important than the one in 1859. But if you've already worked out everything with Al. I. Cuza, then don't bother. :)

As for the royal family, it still exists. Actually, if I'm not mistaken, king Mihai is the only person still alive who was a head-of-state during WW2.

We've only been a republic since the communist regime began (People's Republic, Socialist Republic, and nowadays just Republic). Before that, we were the Kingdom of Romania, and in my opinion that title is best for the Romania you're trying to create.

Ahhhh i did not know this about Cuza, it doesnt say anying about any of that in the information I have read. Although I did read that he was forced to abdicate and was exiled from the country for the rest of his life. It is not too late to change Cuza as a leader or add another. The Primary reason why I chose him at the time was because he instituted such massive reforms of the Romanian economy.
