the idea of cubas communst gove is that, democracy advitaly failes in latin american nations, and changes into a kinda despotism. and so cummunisam is thear to keep this from hapenging in cuba... well if u look at south america.. ya.. thear right..

cuba i whold say is probly better of then most latin american nations.. thay got very good edication sytem, and health care sytem.. waht do u think about the "cuban theroy(spelling}"

I dislike the fact that Cuba follws the Marxist-Leninist system. I disliek the way Castro is the leader, and theirs no changing that. However i'd rather have Castro in charge than some US backed murderign right-wing dictator......so I guess it's really a no win situation. Democracy would be nice...

but the problem with Cuba will be that when Castro is gone, the whole country will be taken over by american corporations.

There's no way that those cuban companies are able to compete in an open market. So if you wonna have a last look at those picturesc buildings & cars in Havana, i suggest you go now, before it is all replaced by McDonald's, Nike stores & more of the same...

sadly ur right.. i hate to see such a thign hapend.. :(

despite Brazils current times (or has it recoverd from that economic depression?) brazil is a shining star in the region, capitalism seems to be working fairlly well there, as it present to me that each nation should be judged on a case by case basis, not grouped into a regional whole, this said, communism woul dbe a poor choice (hell, it be crap on stick) socialism woul dbe nice, but that could only work in my opinion after free enterprise gets an economy up running to the point where it can be applied like the european states who employ do. Democratic free enterprise is more then likelly the best choice for them, after that perhaps a switch to limited, if not outright socialism.

Communism anywhere is wrong. By the way you talk about U.S.A. puppet dictators but what about Castro, he isn't democraticly elected either and why would the Cubans be tring to escape if it is so nice down there.

Maybe it won't be the americans. Maybe it will be the Belgians! Oh who am I fooling, the Belgians never so anything with the exception of charging heads of state with war crimes........oh hell, they even gave up on that.........Maybe they will open up a candy shop!

Topple the government if its despotic. Topple it if it turns to communism. Topple it again if it reverts (inevitably) back to despotism. Keep on toppling it until they get it right.

vietcong, work on your literacy there comrade. All that I can get from your post is that you're saying Cuba is an example of a communist country where communism worked. I disagree. If you're saying more than that, it didn't come across.

The cuban system sucks big time. Cuban educational success is a myth. Before the Revolution, Cuba alreday had high standards compared to other latin american countries. It had the best living standards in the Caribbean. Now it's behind Puerto Rico, Panama, and basically everybody except for Haiti.
Not that I approve Fulgencio Batista. He was a terrible dictator. But castro is even worse. He made the island become an absolutist monarchy(he even named his brother as his successor). It also makes me sick the way he made the cuban govt worship him as a God. BTW: the Cuban dictatorship killed(far) more than all right-wing dictatorships of Latin America together!
More on topic: Communist Partys are almot dead in South America, but there are many populist socialist partys that go very well on elections. IMO communism doesn't work anywhere.

@Xen: Brazil is recovering from the economic crisis relatively fast. I wouldn't call it depression, we didn't had nearly as much trouble as Argentina and the economy didn't collapse.

That great elementary school education sure goes well with starvation, poverty, and the police up your butt all day...

I'm very glad Brazil didn't succumb to any kind of military dictatorship or the like. Go Brazil!

Not to mention that I know some people there...so I like for their well-being to be great too.

That looks so much like my own toilet. So does this mean if I shoved the plunger down there....I'll find some Communist countries? Sweet...

@ Newfangle: I never knew you were such an interventionalist (I coined that word, remember that :p).

Does someone have a list of countries and their governments for the Caribbean and South America? I can't think of one communist country besides Cuba, but I can think of a few "problem" countries - i.e. dictators, American interventions, corrupt democracies, etc...

Could I ask a question?

Why do we have sanctions on a country that is not a threat to us or anyone else?

Because he's very very evil!

Well, maybe they thought that by cutting off the American market, he will collapse on account of having no money. Problem is, he trades with other nations and it probably makes him stronger because he can go blame America for everything.
