Discuss all of you favorite tactics here. Are there any social policies you favor over others? Any techs that you research out of the gate? Any units that you must have in your army? Let us know. People new to CCTP, this will be a great place to pick up some basic strategies and ideas to get you rolling in your first game.

I'll start. I play on Emperor, Standard everything, Pangaea (Plus).

Spoiler :
Early Game
As Rome, I usually start with researching Mysticism first. My rationale is that I don't build workers early anyway, so getting the techs to improve resources isn't as essential. I build an early shrine for religion, and then spam warriors (barbs are rough). If I have a location heavy with resources that can be connected by a certain improvement, I go for that improvement. Otherwise, I head straight for Bronze Working to find the Iron. If there is a lot, and I have a neighbor nearby, I gear up for war. I get Wood Working and Iron Working (in that order, because Ballista have to be slow built while I can just upgrade my Warriors, so they actually pop around the same time), adopt Monarchy for the military bonuses, and attack.

If I lack Iron and/or I don't have a neighbor nearby, I get the domestic techs, and adopt Imperialism for the fast expand possibilities. In these situations, I adopt Theocracy for the growth and happiness.

Early-Mid Game
:king:
By now, I've met my neighbors (scout, scout, scout), and I get a general sense of how to play out the game. At least one civ is taken out by this point, so the conqueror is high up on the scoreboard. If I have many bonus resources around, I emphasize the Economic Tree for the Monopoly Buildings; don't underestimate the power of these boost. If I don't have many resources, I focus on improving my science and happiness. Either way, if I have unfriendly neighbors, I keep a large standing army; if you get attacked without one, you *will* lose some cities. Depending on the state of the world, I'll either switch to Democracy (usually done if I picked Theocracy) for the growth and science boost, or I'll stay with Monarchy for the military. If you are thinking about warring, get up to cannons; cities have very high attacks, and you do not want to lose your siege weapons the turn that they get in range.

Mid-Late Game
:ar15:
War, plain and simple. WWI Infantry have a much improved attack over Riflemen, as does Artillery. Get up your unit producing buildings fast (Combined Arms), and then crank out the heavy machinery. If you have a decent jump on the other AI in this area, you can probably take out one or two civs. Your main concern will be happiness, and Global Opinion of you; if you DOW, you will not have any friends left (except for your Tanks ). Carve yourself a nice little area, and hold tight. Don't be too aggressive though, as AI DOWs from multiple directions can be the end of you. I only suggest getting Autocracy if you are really in trouble; yes, the military bonuses are top notch, but you sacrifice the opportunity to spur on technical advancement.

Ok my standard strategy with CCTP is, i always go with the imperelism policy tree first.
(hope i spelled it correct).
With this strategy i always built 2 or 3 cities and when i finished the tree, i start spamming my cities with 3 instead of 1 population.
Just to note i always play marathon, maybe when you play other gamespeeds this is not so helpfull.

i just pick the policies that give you great scientists and use their tech boost (waste of time building academies) and always go for the wonders that give you them too so you can steamroll your way through the tech tree...until you get to the industrial era :P

It seems the AI always goes for a flat large empire...
I have lost numerous games where I am a tall empire covering the max area I can with 4-5 cities, creating approx 60% of all the wonders, high culture and really good science.... yet the AI still wins.

How do you counter this? Is it ultimately better to colonize an entire continent(s)???? is being flatter better?

If so, how far apart should your cities be?
Moderator Action: Merged the threads.

We already have a thread for this, you are making a duplicate....

Anyway, I think that you need to beeline your techs more. Choose your wonders carefully, and make sure that you are prioritizing the ones that you need the most.

By the way, how does the AI usually win, and in which era?

Most points.... usually before the modern era...

Is there a setting, I can adjust to move the vicotry conditions further away???

It is certainly true that the game is woefully slow. If there is a time victory occurring in 2050 then that is another bug that should be rectified. Anyway, Epic and Marathon are NOT balanced, and you should therefore not play them until the bugs and game issues are resolved.

Not sure I understand 2 things here... What is the imperialism policy tree (when I play, I have to take monarchy first... game will not let me take anything else)....and what do you mean by spamming cities?

There are three separate policy pages - Governments, Government Ideologies, and Government Systems. You can change between them from a bar on top of the social policy panel. That's how you select imperialism.

So with some new things going on :) i want to get a feeling of how many units players usually have in each of the eras? So it would be really helpful if i can get a bit of feedback on this eg:

Ancient era: ~5 units: 2 workers, 2 warriors, 1 boat
Classical era:... etc

Units: -
Ancient - 1 per City(2-3 cities) + 5 for defence.
Rest of Eras - 10 + GCU(usualy around another 7-9) + 5-7 Workers, this is for all Eras, after Ancient, Defence. IF I go on the offensive its +20 Units. So say on average 45 Units.

Conquest only Option is a totaly different ball game :)

Edit:-

Happiness Wonders are OP :)

Well since i only play marathon i got more units like you above.
For ancient 3 (sometimes more if iam in war and can capture)worker and at least 2 scouts and a minimum of 5 combat units (spearthrower and and warrior) all on diety with in normal cases 3 cities.
Cant say it for the rest marthon is so lang run and it depends of my situation if iam in war or isolated. But in most cases i have the smallest army of all players.
