Community Patch - How To Install

See, there's where your problem is, you could have saved yourself many of wasted hours :)

You cannot have 2 DLL mods active at the same time!!! You are not using Vox Populi's DLL (aka Community Patch) which includes all AI improvements AND the hooks for the new functions and features of Vox Populi. You are using Smart AI's DLL instead, hence the new VP features are not working (and you are missing even better AI).

Get rid of Smart AI. The good parts of it are already included in the Community Patch anyway.

And I suggest trying VP without any extra mods first - to make sure you avoid anyod conflicts. If you want to add more mods, check the stickied Mod compatibility thread. It is not 100% guaranteed, but people share their experience with extra mod compatibility with VP, so it is a good place to start.

And I'd install the newest beta of VP, I haven't played it myself, it seems very stable.

Edit: I am not hating Smart AI. It was a great mod and I was using it before VP appeared. But it is not compatible with VP.

However please remember, while I value your insight and I thank you for clarifying this, what you are saying is *not* really made clear in the forums where Smart AI is discussed or other areas as well. Again, I thank you for setting me straight on that however I did put in some time and do research (like I do with a surprising amount of things) however there was no real mention for us not to use Smart AI.

Also, in this case I wouldn't say it was a total waste. I learned alot about VP which has enabled me to use the mod easier because I understand it better now. Even still, thanks again I will go shut off Smart AI and fire up a new game. :D

No worries :-) I think it is mentioned somewhere in the install instructions that you can have only 1 DLL mod active at a time, but I think it should be highlighted more. I'd even go as far as saying something like "To the new players: please run your first Vox Populi game without any extra mods as mod conflicts may occur. If you want to add extra mods, check the mods compatibility thread for guidelines (not 100% guaranteed, may change in time) and note that only 1 DLL can be active at a time".

@Gazebo, would you add this line (after proofreading) to some prominent place in the install instructions?
 
Smart AI is not listed in "Mods NOT compatible with VP" section, should be useful to find it there, too. :)
It is listed as incorporated. But doubling it on the incompatible list will do no harm, I suppose.

@Mishaxki , you mention a discussion about using Smart AI together with VP. Would you link me to it? Maybe we can ask the forum admins to delete the discussion so that it does not confused anyone anymore.
 
Hey, this may not be perhaps the best place to post this, however is there a mod where I can set certain civs at war with just each other? Like I know we could do total war however that's overkill... hah literally. Just wondering thanks.

@4CV - Pretty much everywhere I've read. It just seems like they discuss Smart AI with VP but all the important points are missing. However that's ok I think our discussion here should cover it.
 
Does anyone know a mod that makes sea travel faster? I found two mods that adds promotions to naval units, but these doesn't work with Vox Populi units.
 
Is there any way to enable the vox populi mods (like civ 4 diplomacy and city state diplomacy) without enabling the balance rework itself? I tried installing Civ 4 diplomacy and City State Diplomacy on it's own but they never worked
please help

I think you may some old stand alone version of Civ4D and CSD on the Steam Workshop.
 
Is there a way to use the community patch together with the customized version of EUI that is available in the MEGA folder? I tried just now, but the top icons disappear.
Or community patch without VP only works without EUI? :undecide:

This is what I've been wondering. Seems like there has never been any consideration for running just CP and EUI -- the two most important civ 5 mods -- together.

edit: The old fix of deleting the LUA folder will allow the basic interface to function but various things still don't work properly, the most vital of which being trade proposals. You'll see every resource in the game when proposing a deal to another civ irrespective of who has what, and you can't see anything that has actually been added to the proposal. Sometimes the AI will appear to initiate blank trade offers which aren't actually blank, you just can't see what's in them.

The old lua fix is.. ugly. And now we have the unity(civilian /military) movement bug, when the 2 mods are loaded together. Its impossible to play.
So..thats it.

Ask on GitHub guys, most people on this forum play full VP imo.

I don't recall the numbers, but based on an old poll and judging from the topics discussed, I think only a minority of people here play with just CP. Sure, there are more people out there playing with just CP, but as it does not change any vanilla game mechanics, they probably don't come here to discuss - unless they run into a bug or install problem. But CP only players are not banished from here, the install thread is for all users of the mod package. Therefore, I would not suggest changing the thread title.

It's just that you will probably get a better response on GitHub, where CP/VP devs patrol, track and solve problems. If you are not familiar with GitHub, it's linked in one of the stickied threads, it's very easy to create an account and create an issue there.

Well, I was not entirely correct. I think there are a couple of things changed to make the decision making easier for AI. If I am not mistaken, the siege units do not need to setup and move only 1 tile per turn in the enemy territory. And the 1st Great Prophets spawn immediately once the needed faith is accumulated (I think in vanilla they spawn randomly after you accumulate the faith) - but you will probably know better than me :-)

My only problem in the game after installing the patch is that I can't scroll through the technology tree. Has anyone experienced this?
That's definitely not the only problem, you are bound to experience more as you play on. Please reinstall Vox Populi.

Do you have all the required DLCs? Is your Civ5 up to date? (should end with .279)

I have the gods and Kings and Brave new world add-on on Steam, I think there are automatic updates there. Also i cant load EUI shows an error with files in it when loading the session

You should also have the Ancient Wonders pack and the extra civs.

But even if you don't, it should not break the tech tree for you. More likely caused by EUI landing in the wrong location. I suppose your top bar is messed up too? Browse the recent posts in this thread, you will find how to move the EUI from the default (= wrong) location to the correct one (= where your Steam/Civ5 is installed).
